Why don't people want to know much about their ancestry??

Why is that [some] blacks and [some] hispanics--that is those with strong west indies/caribbean/islander blood--tend to be so offended when told that their ancestries derive from Africa??

For example, I know a girl who is Haitian, and "insults" me and my friend because we are African and when my friend and I try to tell her that technically she is African/has African blood in her, she gets so offended [Godforbid she was] but the truth is that a large section of that area has African ancestry, it's evident in their food, music, and culture as a whole....[same with the Hispanic parts, their ancestry traces back to Africa and Spain, too]

Why don't people know -or- refuse to know about their ancestry and when told get offended -or- seem to be in denial??

Update:

Tricia, that's besides the fact....

I'm pretty much asking why do they get so offened when told the truth??

I'm confused about this too. I don't think that they know their history. Haitians were slaves the same as blacks were in this country. The only difference is that when they revolted, they succeeded and took over their country. Jamaicans were also slaves. I know some Haitians and Jamaicans and many of them are nice, but there are many, many of them that think that they are better than American blacks because of our slave history. Maybe they don't teach them about their slave history in their countries.

And Latinos should know that the reason that many of them are so dark is because of the African Slave trade in their countries. Look at the kinky hair with the Brazilians. Spain, Brazil, Peru, many of those countries bought African slaves. That's also why there is such an African influence in their music. I guess no one wants to admit to having the tiniest drop of black blood in them. That's what I REALLY call self-hatred.

Not sure. Guess it's a very touchy subject for some. If you go back far enough, everyone in the world could trace their ancestry to Africa.

Well I know dat alot of spanish people believe they are superior to african americans, so they find it disgusting to hear that their culture originated from Africa..... which is the truth

Some are more interested in this than others. I would be very much into this sort of thing. I have quite a bit of research on my mother's side of the family and can go back to my great-great-great-grandparents in some cases. Of one set of my great-great-great-grandparents, my grandmother was one of 140+ great-grandchildren, some of whom are younger than my mother!!

Not everyone wants to spend time re-living the past when they have the current and future to enjoy. Your interests are not necessarily the same as everyones elses

PEOPLE NEVER LIKE TO HEAR THE TRUTH

THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD ARE FAKE.

    PEOPLE DONT LIKE TO LEARN.

ALOT OF WHITE CAUCASIANS ARE THE SAME THEY ACT LIKE THEY WERE HERE FIRST .

SOME OF US DO NOT LIKE TO MENTION THAT THE ASIANS WERE HERE FIRST.
