Would you eat cloned meat?
If scientists found a way to clone a steak without cloning the brain, etc. of an animal, would you have any moral objection to eating it? Assume that a single cell could be removed from an animal living a happy free range life and used to eventually produce thousands of steaks with no other non-vegan input.
I think some of you people are missing the point of the question. I'm not talking about cloning an animal and then butchering it. I'm talking about cloning ONLY a portionof the flesh for a steak. I guess the proper word would be cultured, not cloned. Also: I KNOW that this isn't currently commercially available. This is what you'd call a hypothetical question.

There are too many assumptions that have to take place the first of which is currently insurmountable. The science for such a proces simply does not exist nor is it even being explored as a distant possibility. Cloning while possible is still at it's earliest stages. A cloned animal does not come out as a fully grown adult ready for slaughter. It is done at the cellular level so the clone still has to be born, grow up etc. Cost is currently so prohibitive and success rate so low that meat from such a creature would cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars a pound making it an non-viable mass production commercial undertaking in the forseeable future.
Fruits, vegetables and grains such as rice and corn on the other hand, have been cloned and gentically manipulated for years.

Meat *can* currently be cultured from muscles cells taken from a living donor. I asked a question about this about a year and a half ago after reading about it in Vegetarian Times.
But to answer your question, no I wouldn't eat it. I have no desire to eat animal flesh in any form.
Note that cultured meat is different from cloned meat. A clone is a separate living being and would still have to be slaughtered.

I don't eat meat; cloned or not cloned. If I had the choice, I would eat vegetables that contained genes from animals either.

from an ethical point of view, i guess it would be alright. i might still be weirded out b/c the smell of it makes me nauseous. but supposing i liked it and all, i guess i would eat it. i think cloned meat is an excellent idea and if people weren't so damn opposed to genetic engineering, it would be science's best compromise ever. the vegetarians are happy and the meat eaters are happy.

The FDA just approved cloning of animals for human consumption. I have a bad feeling about it.

I eat very healthy at all times. It is very funny that you asked this question. I feel that cloned meat is already most likely hitting our markets. I really would not want to eat it, but I fear it will be not be able to be avoided in the near future.

If I was vegan for just my moral or ethical views then yes I probably would eat it, however I am vegan for the health benefits also so no I wouldn't.

That would be a great alternative for other people but I wouldn't touch it.
This sort of product is going to be extremely unaffordable for a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time.

that sounds cool but i probably still wouldnt because i dont like meat and i'm too used to be a veggie. sooo no.
