I just moved and cannot get DSL or cable for internet service. Are there any other options out there?
I am cringing at going back to dial-up. I don't have time to search the internet because the library I'm at has a time limit.
I don't know when my next chance to be online will be, but will try to check your answers in a day or two.

I use Sprint wireless Internet and have also used Verizon in the past. Both run about sixty dollars per month and work almost anywhere I have tried to use it in the US. Including remote parts of mountainous Tennessee and Georgia. I will admit it is a tiny bit slower than DSL or broadband but much better than dial up and a standard phone line.

Verizon Wireless offers "DSL like" speed with the cellular connection. You can use it almost anywhere in the USA (just not in the deep forest of Northeastern Maine).... it's like 50 dollars a month unlimited use.
If you have a laptop it's great for that!! I wouldn't use it for a home pc though. Kind of defeats to purpose of a cellular internet connection.
Some companies may offer an ISDN connection. This was the "upgrade" back in the day when dial up was the norm! It was also a secondary option when dsl was new.
A satelite connection sucks because of the "ping time". If your not going to play a game, then it's fine. Remember, a satalites "UPLOAD" time/speed is the biggest problem to this connection. The download is acceptable. It's a bit pricey though.
Your neighbors have highspeed? Prolly not??? Since you don't. But there is such thing as a "cantenna" that extends wireless range.

ur options are from better to worse:
Fixed Wireless ISP- your best hope, must have line of sight tho ( local internet companies usually offer these since national brands concentrate with dsl and cable.
ISDN - cost just as much as fixed wireless but with slower speeds
Cellular Wireless - if you are in a forest or hilly area and cant get fixed wireless, will be slower than fixed but better than idsn
Dialup - have a house?. lol
Satelite - worthless, i had one, its expensive, actually takes longer than dialup on email sites. only benefit is loading of cnet.com type of sites and even then it always has page errors, only 1 pc can transfer information at a time.

Try DirectWay or HughsNet
www.satellite-internet.tv/HughesNet
It is a direct to Satellite connection. It's more expensive but very fast. Don't need a phone line.
