How does a person who is very selective about what they will believe deserving of hell?

I don't believe Christianity for the same reasons that I don't believe Islam or the church of scientology. If I believe something without testing it for its truth value, I am liable to become an agent of such philosophies that could be harmful to myself or others. It is a moral choice that I don't believe, why do I deserve hell?

Update:

It should read "How is a person..."

Update 2:

Wow Mrg. You pretend to know me very well. I wasn't surprised that you also (cowardly) don't allow emails.

I will try to shed some light..{:-)

When you or your Dad bought or built your family a home, You/He built it for his/your beloved. Why in the world would the neighbor kids (who you don`t even know) from, oh say, five miles away be allowed to come in , eat the food, take of the blessings, write a check, change the channels, swim in the pool, climb into bed with you, or otherwise be entitled to anything your family has?

It is not to punish them that they don`t get to do this.. It was built for YOUR family.

Their family is providing for them.. Are you or your kids entitled to go to their house and do that? NO.. It isn`t about punishing YOU..

Heaven was built for GOD`s kids.. We are his children.. We get to go to HIS house and do whatever we want to.. Because he built it: for US..

You have been given the free will to actually be adopted into God`s family, IF you choose another family, You get all the rights and benefits from the family YOU chose..

Peace and God bless from Texas <><

    Hi Razon,

You bring up 2 very basic questions, "What do I deserve?" and "What is Hell?"

I'd like to start with what the Bible says about "Hell." Most Christians today believe and teach that everyone who dies without faith in God will live eternally in the fiery torments of Hell. Most atheists, of course, teach that nice people and mean people die and that's it; no consciousness and no existence.

I believe that the Bible teaches a truth that is actually somewhere in the middle. The Hebrew word for hell used throughout the Old Testament Scriptures is "sheol." What's interesting is that about half the time this word is translated into the English "hell" and the other half the time it's translated as "the grave." Additonally, the Old Testament teaches that those who go down to "sheol" are silent! (Ps.115:17) There are no songs of worship and no shrieks of terror. The Bible clearly teaches that everyone who dies is in an unconscious sleep. (Eccl.9:5,6,10)

Not wanting to disappoint though, let me assure you that the Bible does predict a future reward. For those who accept God's law of love there will be a resurrection of eternal life, forever removed from the evils of selfishness and hatred. (Rev.21:4; 1Thess.4:16) For those who embrace selfishness and hatred there will be a lake of fire that will burn up and consume the foolish. (Rev.20:9,10; Mal.4:1-3)

Just a note about the Greek New Testament, the expression "forever and ever" means literally " an age" or "a period of time." Specifically, it means as long as life exists.

So Razon, what do you deserve? Do you want to fully emrace a life of love and kindness? Or do you prefer to live selfishly? The Spirit of the true God of heaven is moving upon your heart to make a choice. It's up to you!

if you don't believe in the fairy stories, why should you be worried about the stories end?

Religious people invented heaven and hell, and deserve both of them.... :0)

FIRE AND ICE by Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,

    Some say in ice.

From what I've tasted of desire

I hold with those who favour fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To say that for destruction ice

    Is also great

    And would suffice.

    1) You boast about it

    2) You hypocritically boost yourself over others

    3) If you really believed you were not going to Hell you wouldn't keep posting the same stupid question

    4) You are still under the moral code and you have to prosecute your search for God until you have an answer. Are you just being cutesy by not saying "I am an atheist"

Guys like you annoy the hell out of me --- which is one reason you post.

While I respect your right to choose intelligently, you must realize how limited and finite our minds are~ we don't know everything

God is the only one who can show you the truth, so if you could humble yourself and ask the one who can show you for the wisdom you need, He could lead and guide you into all truth

If He said there is only one way to eternal life and that is through His Son, then may I suggest you consider His way

Any religion that uses the threat of hellfire or some other divine punishment is just a damned mind-control cult. Thumbs-down away, ye slaves to stupidity!

The bible says that the reason people don't believe is because they're deeds are evil.

No one is good and all sin. God made a way for sinners to come to him and if they refuse that way then it's because they would rather hold onto their sin.

    That's truth value.

Source(s): John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
