    I personally don`t feel there is any common ground .Religion at at its best teaches love and compassion for all in Gods world, a world without borders. Patriotism separates and distinguishes between ethnicity's and cultures and goes against basic Religious values ..the one that comes to mind is ..*love your fellow man*

    Obeying commands of God Almighty and following teachings and preaching is The Most Important priority on any other thing.

    Patriotism does not means if a country we belongs geographically is involved in activities against the commands of God Almighty and teachings of Holy Prophets, and we have to support such activities. No No, this is not patriotism, this should be called Stalkinsm.

    And should be considered crime helping crime against humanity as accomplice of criminal.

    Religiously every human being should support humanity with justice and support justice first and with that supporting geographical alliance is "Patriotism".

    I have faith and belief in God--so I have faith and belief in my country. It doesn't mean I think my country is right all the time, they aren't--but the belief is more in the system of our government--God is first always, but it doesn't mean we can't defend our country and our way off life. I do not believe that one religion is right, but I don't think all the religions are wrong. When you take all the religions and compare them side by side--they have all the same basic teachings-Im not talking about extremists either. Unprovoked attacks on innocent people is not something that I feel God approves of and that is where righteous anger comes in--everything is tied to God, even our basic laws are following some Bible precepts. Our government is an entity of a group of people elected by the majority of the whole based on the belief and faith of the people that they will do a good job and pass laws that make sense. I really can't make it clear, it is just how I feel.

    I believe it is imperative to separate, and strive to keep separate forever, the two concepts. Consider that one's country may or may not allow the freedom of belief in any religion. If patriotism colors religion, the tendancy to promote a single religion usually occurs. Witness many Islamic nations, and the turmoil that ensues. One need not put country before God in order to facilitate a relationship with Him, however in a free society, it is vital to recognize the importance of choice.The real value of democracy lies in the rule of the majority. This is difficult to swallow sometimes, but America is proof that it is the most desirous situation.

    Wow, Reverend, I've never thought much about this.

    Thank-you for asking this important question. I suppose

    from a Biblical point of view which teaches us to honour our

    families, our mother, father, siblings, spouse and children, it becomes clear that honouring our nation is a very high priority.

    In addition we recall Jesus telling us to "render unto Caesar....."

    etc.

    Prayer for your country and leaders so that you can continue to lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty.

    I Timothy 2:1-3

    I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

    For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

    For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.
