Would it be considered racist to open a store in the mall called "Caucasian Style"?

In So. Cal, I have been to a couple of malls sporting a store called "Chicano Style". They have a lot of Mexican pride products, including t-shirts making light of being illegal.

Does any one feel that this is racist? The owners claim (MySpace, Chicano Style webpage) that they are not racist. But if I opened a "Caucasian Style" store, sold white pride products, and t shirts that said something along the lines of "My ancestors oppressed yours", and claimed that I wasn't being racist....would anyone TRULY believe me?

And would the mall actually let me open my store there, or is that a right that only minorities have, to profit off of their c u l t u r e?

Update:

"My ancestors oppressed yours" _Making light of it all, like the illegal immigration shirts that they sell.

Update 2:

Whoa.... this is a HYPOTHETICAL question.

I personally believe that people should be defined by their character, not their c u l t u r e.

I have no intentions of opening a store called "Caucasian Style".

I was just wondering if the hypocrisy was noticed by anyone else besides myself....

I get a kick out of reading some of the post that some "Caucasians" come in here and post about what's racist and what's not. If you're not a racist (deep down in your soul) then things such as "Urban gear" or "Chicano Style" really wouldn't bother you. Unless there was really some "racist" thoughts that races through your mind from time to time. And it must be, because something so silly as this wouldn't bother you.

Honestly, would you really want to open up a retail store that sole shirts with the slogan "white power" (meaning that of a chant being shouted by the KKK or the Arian Brother Hood) and not think that someone would have a problem with it? You and many others may get angry at me for saying this, but "white pride" and "white power" is something that has been preached in this country for many years, way before you saw any shirts with a raised fist and mother Africa in the back ground, or a hat with the Mexican flag colors on it. "Caucasians" have always been able to openly and freely express their pride in their culture here in America.

Italians, Irish, Scottish, Polish, Russian, Jewish, British, Swedish, German Americans (or of European Decent) have never had a problem expressing who they are. And here, these races are considered "Caucasian". Most of the clothing lines you see in the retail stores are considered targeted toward the young "Caucasian" (American Eagle, Abercrombie and Finch, Banana Republic, Tommy Hilfigure) the more name-brand clothing are considered "Caucasian" or European.

The more ethnic clothing lines came about because Black/Hispanic's where not able to afford these name brand threads. So they made their own clothing line (For the people, by the people) that many "Caucasian" youth dawn with "pride" to this day. So I don't think it's a problem with the stores name of brand being sold, I think the problem really lies within you.

You have a problem with the moniker of the store and the name of the brand, because you have a problem with the people and its culture that it represents. Clothing that someone chooses to pay for and ware have no affect on how you or I should feel about who we are as people. Unless you have a problem with the people who wear them ;)

In a way he has, only he calls them the American worker. The real workers of America who want to keep working regardless of race will support Mitt. The racist left has again coming into light just like the way Jackie Robinson was trashed because he supported a republican in NY because he saw what the Democrats were destroying NYC. Judge Thomas, C. Rice, A West, Bill Crosby and Watts all being criticizing for wanting blacks to improve their lives.

Who cares what you open up. People who want to patronize you will, people who don't, won't the way it is with any other product. Why don't you just try it and see what happens or are you just seeing what the dumbest, most racist question you can ask on here is?

You need to step up your game and get a little more creative with your "what if" racist questions, you sound a little stupid. You sit up and think of this stuff all day, I know you can do better than this. And just what culture would you be you trying to profit off of, the "White people who tried to kill off all the Indians and steal their land" cultural or the "White people who went to Africa and brought back human slaves" cultural? Just curious.

Only if the mall sells actual Caucasian clothing such as fur Ushanka hats, baggy Cossack trousers and the headscarves worn by your typical babushka

It would not be racist to reasonable, intelligent people. Only race baiters such as Rev. Jackson/Sharpton who make their living by inventing racism where none exist would call it racist. According to them, whatever they do, no matter how racist or over the top, they cannot be racist because their ancestors were slaves 150 years ago and are therefore "owed". Why do they have MLK day? and there is no Edison or Bell or Wright day? Who improved everyday life for EVERYBODY more??? Hope this partial answer is OK and not "racist" (pleeeeeeese!)

Aside from the whole store concept in itself, the "My ancestors oppressed yours" shirt might have a slightly negative effect. All I'm saying is that there is an extremely minor chance that this might rub someone the wrong way.

As long as Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton and MLK's soul don't find out about it, you'll be fine. The opressive shirt not good. But yeah.

  • You would have Jesse Jackson in that place before it even opens, claiming that you're a white supremecist. It's NOT okay for Caucasians to boast their race...it's only okay for minorities to do it. For some reason, that's the rule of this country. It's foolish, but it's true.

Although even I have to admit that the T-shirt idea you have is really tacky, and I wouldn't buy one for all the money in the world.
