As a realtor the cheapest home Ive found (since I've been looking for myself) has been $301,000 in the mission valley area which is pretty central... but there's always a deal to be had!

Living... as far as gas and everything else.. comparatively.. yes, but it's San Diego.. and most of the year it's nice enough to wear shorts! Hey it might be cold today but 2 days ago it was 82 degrees - in FEB! You cannot beat that!

It was about 3.55 per gallon now its about 3.00 per gallon.

Rent for a nice house 3 bedroom is about 1600-2100 but for those prices you might as well own.

It really depends on where in San Diego county, specifically the city. North county is way cheaper in terms of housing prices than say any of the coastal communities. Common to all areas is the high price for utilities, particularly electricity, natural gas and water. Also, gas for the car is always expensive out here. We do get relatively cheap produce, citrus, and avocado. Property taxes are pretty stable since Proposition 13, but that doesn't stop cities from passing bond measures that constantly increase the amount you pay annually. We have 4 bond measures we're floating for the next 40 years on ours. In addition, insurance is really expensive both because of the wildfires and earthquakes, but also because of accident and theft rates. Of all of the places I've lived in the world, I would say San Diego is THE most expensive place I've lived by far.

Also les expensive but not too bad are Paradise hills, spring valley and Southern El Cajon.

Small house nice neighborhood $300.000+ good luck living is expensive too! I moved away in the early 80's and will never move back. Nice place to visit I don't know how anyone can afford to live there.
