What colour wedding dress to match Stewart tartan kilt?

I'm going to be getting married in 2010 most likely in the autumn. I have never really seen myself in a white/off white dress and really like the idea of a brightly coloured dress. However, my man will be wearing a stewart tartan kilt (http://kiltstore.net/tartan/Stewart-Royal/31248?fi... and I have no idea what colours would work with it.

A friends mum will be making my dress so it's a free reign on the fabric colour.

I quite like the idea of a grey/silver but not sure that would go.

Any help and suggestions greatly appreciated!

You have to be the first bride in history ever to take the inspiration for her wedding dress from her groom's outfit! Every other bride chooses her dress first than expects everyone else to coordinate with her.

But since you're asking, why not go with something like this?(obviously use Stewart tartan, rather than the one in the photo)

That way you get some white and some colour at the same time.

This photo shows how a single-coloured gown can work really well with tartan (a red gown would be lovely with the Stewart tartan)

You can get all-tartan wedding dresses, but to be honest I think they're a bit much

btw I got married in a pin-stripe kilt!

If you like the idea of a silver gown then wear a silver gown. I think that would look very nice with a stewart tartan kilt. I wouldn't match the kilt as that would be too much of the plaid but I think silver would look very nice.

I am getting married in 9 weeks in Stewart dress tartan. My dress is just plain ivory and the bridesmaids are in dove Grey. I think this works really well.

Also for hire of your kilts debenhams have just started doing highland hire they do the Stewart tartan. And is sooo cheap around 6o pound including shoes and all accessories plus grooms is free.

I'd go with the green from the tartan, and have a plaid in his tartan pinned to your shoulder so that it falls down the back of your dress (it's kind of like a shawl type thing) I can only find a picture of a man wearing one but you get the idea:

A white or the blue in the tartan dress with a sash the same as your husband to be´s tartan would be gorgeous!

ohhh... gorgeous. So have been to a few weddings (live in Scotland so they are always Kilted).. the dresses have been: Red with tartan sash (very traditional and beautiful, you can find some on google images under scottish wedding dress), purple.. bit on the wild side! Deep cream, classic with scottish flower bouquet but my favourite one is lavender... different and beautiful but still definitely wedding dressy!

Have an amazing day!! (PS time will fly!)

  • I saw a wedding once where the groom had given his bride to be a large Celtic brooch. She came down the aisle wearing a traditional ivory gown with her family tartan pinned to her shoulder, trailing down her back. After the ceremony, the groom had his family tartan waiting, and simply added it to the pin. I thought it looked great and was a very touching symbol of her joining his family.
