Honeymoon Destination?

We live on the East Coast and are considering going to San Francisco for our honeymoon. Has anyone else gone there or do you have an opinion on this city as a honeymoon destination? Thanks...

Update:

We already live on a resort island, so going to the Carribean or another beach place isn't that important.

Update 2:

We were thinking about that, going to wine country for a day or 2. And also possibly going to San Luis Obispo/ Hearst Castle.

I have heard nothing but great things about San Fransisco. It is romantic. You should check out Pier 39. There is a lot of culture there any many things to do, plus... the food is great! Don't pay any mind to these nay-sayers. Congrats to you both!

I have visited San francisco before and totally loved it! I read that San Francisco is in the top 20 honeymoon cities in the world AND it is one of the places i am going to on my honeymoon as well as Hearst Castle! So of course i think its a great place to go! As we are coming from the UK we are making it a 3 week honeymoon and will also be visiting Yosemite National Park, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Phoenix, San Diego, LA, Fresno, Bakersville and santa Barbara. From the research i have done there is lots to see and do in and around San Francisco and lots of beautiful places to go.

Honeymoon destinations very much depend on the activities that the couple enjoy doing. So decide what you want from your honeymoon and find out if San Francisco has everything you want! Good luck!

I would not honeymoon there...been there many times, nice town, but not for a honeymoon. If money is a factor, I can understand, but if you can afford a little more, I would recommend Jamaica (or any of the Caribbean Islands). I went to Jamaica for my honeymoon and it is STILL the best place I have ever been to. Whatever you do, try to do the all inclusive. If you want Romance, have a budget and want to stay in the US, try the Poconos or Turtle Island (which is actually relatively close to San Fran...) Good luck and congrats!!!

I've been their once and I liked it a lot. Not sure if it's a top honeymoon destination (compared to Hawaii or the Caribbean) but why not be different and go anyway!

I think it is quite romantic - you can picnic under the stars with the golden gate bridge all lit up as scenary, you could take a horse carriage ride around the city, you could go sightseeing, there is a PERFECT pancake house on Pier 39 you could visit! There is always alcatraz (okay not so romantic but we're thinking different lol)

and remember you're on your honeymoon! You're not gonna leave the room much are you?

I was there about a year ago. It's not really that great a place to vacation (it's just another big city). However, if you like wine you should definitely go to Napa Valley & Sonoma County, which are just 1 hour's drive north of SF. It's soooo romantic, they have wonderful resorts and b&bs. We went on a hot air balloon ride over the valley and it was beautiful. If we ever go back, we plan to just skip SF all together and just go to wine country!

It is all about where you and your fiance want to go. We are going to Disney which tons of people say is ridiculous because

"its not relaxing" "its not romantic" "you have been there a million times"

But really, go where YOU want to go. Not where everyone tells you you should go. ANY PLACE can be romantic. Your honeymoon is going to be what you make of it. If you want it to be sightseeing and what not, then you will enjoy doing that. If you don't want to go out sight seeing, then you will enjoy that too. Doing what you want will make it the best honeymoon. My fiance and I already decided different ways to be able to relax and have romance time in disney world. If we can figure it out in a place like that, I am sure you can and will.

I have never been there (it's on my list of places to go) but from what I heard it is a beautiful city.

It's probably not a popular honeymoon spot but if it's the type of place you like then go for it.
