Why must atheists also be scientists?

I mean atheism simply means non-belief in god(s)...

If you were to inform me that you are a millionaire and I ask for proof, or otherwise, I would not believe you, would I have to be an accountant before I can claim non-belief?

Update:

YoYoMa

You are so right! I like they way you put that.

Well, rather than getting off their butts and educating themselves, some people would rather ask tired questions to atheists here, to gather moral support for their ignorance.

    WHY MONKEYS STILL AROUND

    GEOLOGY MUST BE WRONG

That's what books are for. They have pages in them with writing on it. You can find them at the library

There are plenty of both kinds of scientists. One of the people here commented that God would get in the way of the laws of physics. Physics is man-made based on his observations and calculations and therefore a man-made answer. That doesn't mean God doesn't exist. Physics is based on what we think we know until something changes that. And physics has yet to explain the universe. The difference between atheist scientists and Christian scientists is choice and beliefs. Atheist scientists have yet to explain how the universe began from the very beginning and I doubt they ever will. Creation scientists already have their answer in Genesis.

The burden of proof is on the affirmative, not the negative. when you tell me tales of invisible and indetectible beings, you need to prove they are real. No one took bacteria seriously until the microscope. If theists could come up with a God-scope or Angel-goggles or something that would open their supernatural world to human perception, then we'd have something. But now what they have is two to four millenia old fables, orgins unknown, evidence absent, and they say, "I just know and that should be good enough" but it isn't good enough in any other human arena, so why should mere say so be good enough when it comes to the most imprtant questions of existence?

Science if found in reason. It cannot be found in faith. Faith is the belief in something when no reason exists for the belief. If a reason existed, faith would not be required.

So, all atheists are scientists to the extent that they use non-faith-based logic, which is what science requires. This "science" needs to be only metaphysical or epistemological, not necessarily the science of medicine or engineering or aerospace, etc.

Well, I'd use a broad definition of scientist and say that anyone who can formulate and test a hypothesis is a scientist. So we're pretty much all scientists.

However, I will cheerfully grant that the expectation of a number of theists here is that we atheists are somehow holders of advanced degrees in biological sciences. (Mine's going to be in Economics, so there's at least one counterexample.)

That would be like saying all Christians must be historians because they believe that every account within the Bible is historically accurate. Atheists aren't obliged to be scientists whatsoever.

I'm an engineer. So I'm close.

People just ask these questions so they can dismiss the answers.

Maybe we should be asking the theists a load of questions on the mechanics of volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunami, etc. After all they should have a perfect understanding of these 'acts of God'. They are the 'experts' in that field.

Why must christians be so blind to their faith?

I've heard one of them say Noah Ark is possible because land was in one mass at his time! I just want to slam my face into the computer screen out of sheer ashamed for mankind.

I also have heard of so many incredible stupid fact that just doesn't add up at all.

Let me say we are looking at a rose. We see it is red. Will you believe it if I tell you it is white? No! Why not? Oh that's right you don't have faith so you see it as red.

  • Huh?

Scientists are largely Atheists, not the other way round.

I wish I was a scientist, but am not. But I do read ALLOT.(insert nerd joke here)

The problem is that when I am on R&S and some believer asks me why monkeys still exist, I roll my eyes and answer what I know, instead of kicking my laptop.

Why must Christians also be scientists? Or any other religious people also be scientists? Science and religion are not mutually exclusive.
