Do you think campaigns and political groups are using Yahoo Answers to smear opponents?

Since I've been here I've noticed the relentless waves of smear questions like "Do you know about Obama and Larry Sinclair?" "What do you think of McCain's affair with so-and-so?" and on and on. The same questions get asked so frequently that I'm beginning to think it's beyond the normal level of internet-related idiocy. If you were running a cash-strapped national campaign, wouldn't YOU try to use a free service like Yahoo Answers to repeat these ridiculous assertions and plant lies in the public consciousness about your opponents? You don't have to back up your claims or take responsibilty for them; just make sure people are thinking about McCain and infidelity, or Obama and Islam, as much as possible. It's a perfect smear weapon, and it's cheap cheap cheap.

Update:

Also, consider that questions asked here often wind up at the top of all sorts of google searches. This is place is a great, free way to reach the public.

I think that the large majority of people here are young. Unfortunately some lack maturity and it shows. I try to not let a few bad apples affect my answers.

I seriously doubt that the campaigns would spend time here just to mud-sling.

Anyone with an account can answer any question, it is a free forum.

I hope if there are people from the campaigns answering that they spend time building up and defending their candidate and educating us in the process!

Not doing negative campaigning that can backfire on them if they write any untruths, thus hurting their candidate.

You think so? I think it's just as probable that some people are dumb, or instigators, or trolls, etc. I don't think most people actively go out and look up information on the candidates. Why else would Hillary win NY? I am from NY, and my neck of the woods, not many people liked her, but no one had any information, and since everyone knows her, they probably just said, "Cool, Ill go with her."

Not sure, but I don't think it goes beyond the normal level of internet idiocy. Right about the same.

I think the campaign managers are too smart to think that YA has any effect on the outcome of an election
