If he was making jokes I'd laugh if it was funny.

It's good if people "Fear God" because that's the way it's supposed to be but unfortunately today the all too common problem we have (or God has) seems to be that not everyone fears him which means that if indeed he is the comedian that Voltaire suggests then maybe in turn that might mean that not all the audience would stay completely silent whenever he decides to put on an act worth laughing at.

Quite risque really - considering the time in which Voltaire lived. A wonder the church didn't burn him at the stake for heresy! Personally I do not think that god has a sense of humour at all! But the people that say they know God's will, now they ARE a laugh!

I'll tell you what is funny, the fact that Bibles are now printed in the very house where this Voltaire quote was written.

2 Peter 3:2-4 (King James Version)

2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

I could see God having a sense of humor. He can do whatever He wants. We shouldn't fear him. We should love Him. That is what He wanted went He came in the incarnate flesh as Jesus, the Son of God and yet He was God. I am a Christian and I do not fear God. The word fear is not meant to instill being so afraid of Him, that we follow blindly. He wouldn't want that. That's why He gave us choices.

Voltaire must of had a strange mind to think the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was funny.

If Voltaire is right, then god has a very sick sense of humor.

That certainly explains most misconceptions about the Bible. If we had just filed it in the humor section, religious history might have been a lot less bloody.

    It's stupid..

The Devil is a top class comedian playing to an audience too stupid to open their eyes and stop laughing.
