What qualities or attributes do you look for in a person?
When you first meet a person in any setting, what qualities or attributes are you looking for? Are you looking at the shallow side being physical looks, shape, and wallet size? Or are you looking deeper in the areas of trust, kindness, caring?
I am doing a psychology paper and am curious as to what other people are looking for in friends, acquaintances, and partners. Please do not give me any stupid answers. Real answers only please and give detail if you can.
Thanks

Well when you first meet someone, the first thing you have to go on is their apperance. It's the first thing a person presents about themselves. The way a person carries themselves does say something about a person.
But, I've always believed first impressions can be decieving. I try to spend time talking to someone, asking open ended questions and see where the other person takes a conversations. I tend to like people who can easily joke about themselves and who seem to have nice things to say about their family and/or friends, or just other people in general. They tend to be happier, more cheerful, nicer people.
Or if someone starts to talk about something that I find really interesting, I'll try to engage them in conversation about that topic . But, I think ineviatably, I prefer to look for that traits in people that I mentioned above. People who have a good sense of humor and are generally positive, are the type of people I tend to want to associcate with. I consider myself a friendly person and I like people who seem to be friendly in return.

I like the person to have a great sense of humor. I like a guy that can make laugh even at the most randomest times. He has to be trustworthy too. I want to be able to tell him everything about me without him judging me or telling anybody else. I would want him to not afraid to be different and don't care what other people say

okay...
Friends: i look if they are fun, don't party cuz i am a mom and i don't do that stuff, don't do drugs, are funny, can relate to, have a lot in common, trustworthy, and drama free.
Partner: well my husband what i found most attractive about my husband was his sense of humor, how sweet he is, how he would rather spend time with me instead of his friends. i never ever looked if he had money i didn't care. plus when i first met him he didn't even have a job and lived with a friend. now 2 years later he is the one supporting me and our baby. i looked for someone that had a sense of humor, trustworthy, kind, not shy and open minded.

When if i'm meeting a person, i'll try to figure out who they are as a person and see if that fits me well. I personally don't talk to them for their looks. Personality is big for me! In guys, i look for confidence, but not too much. The looks take part, but not so much. I love guys who can really joke around. Guys that are way to serious are definitely not my type. I like some laughter along the way! I have to know that this guy will suit me and fit my needs. If there immature, forget it. In friends, i look for someone i can trust and i look for someone who doesn't care what i look like and just really cares about my needs, as well as theirs. They just have to fit me and suit me well.

Well at first you don't know them so you're judgement is all you have to begin with,so the shallow part comes into it, looks at first, then when you get to know them, the trust builds and other things like, sincerity, honesty etc.. come into it.
