A ray of light?

Bedouin village named first solar-powered community in Israel

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3509136,...

Hopefully enough attention will help keep the project going and expand it, either though the goverment or private industry.

What are your thoughts on the article?

Update:

Says who? I am a college student and I do have interest in entering the energy industry.

Why do you think I pick up on these things =)

It's really a ray of light. I think it's a very good article. Sunlight is the best energy source in the dessert areas like Negev. The world's first solar mosque is an interesting fact too.

Its good to see that the Bedouins are catching on with the rest of the world. Hopefully it spreads to all countries to save the environment. Cheers!

The Ontario government has given approval for a California company to construct a massive solar "farm" near Sarnia that will blanket an area larger than all three Toronto islands with hundreds of thousands of sun-soaking panels.

It will be the largest solar power station in North America and among the most expansive in the world to use photovoltaic cells that produce electricity when exposed to sunlight. Once complete, the 40-megawatt Sarnia project will be able to supply enough emission-free electricity to power between 10,000 and 15,000 homes on sunny days.

Wow, that's fantastic. How appropriate, too. I always think of the Bedouin as the original "off the grid" people!

I hope they find the $800,000 to expand the program.

P.S. Great to see that "light unto the nations" being fulfilled in literal terms!

I love the idea and enjoy watching it grow.

If say, a Jew, would come up with solar cells that really produce efficiently and a high energy storage technology, the world would beat a path to Israel.

Of course this holds true to everyone but, if Israel could come up with a power plan to serve the world, her dependency on oil could disappear and Israel could get rich.

Joe I think you missed your calling.

A ray of light, indeed! :)

Thanks for sharing! How ironic that the world's first "solar mosque" would be in Israel! Gotta give a point for that one!

And that's great to hear that you're interested in joining the energy industry with an eye on the environment as well. Best wishes on that. :)
