What are your favorite children's books?
I am taking an Early Childhood Education class through the local college and I have to present children's books for infants, toddlers, preschool, kindergarten etc. and I don't want to have to buy a bunch of books to find the best ones, so what are your favorites and why? Thanks for the help :-)

O, I love kids books...
Green Eggs and Ham, by Dr Suess, because it is funny, rhymes and shows little ones that trying new foods can be GREAT!

The Owl and the PussyCat.... I can't think of the author for the life of me, but it goes... the owl and the pussycat went to sea on a beautiful pea green boat, they took some honey and plenty of money wrapped up in a five pound note... and so on. It was my all time favorite when I was about 3 to 6 years old! Enough so that I even remember all the words. Oh... it's by edward lear.

Good Night Moon... this is one of those books that you look at and think, "yuck, who would like this" that illustrations are kinda ugly, and the color scheme, orange green and red is a little harsh... but I have never met a kids who didn't love this book. EVER. My daghter loves to read it before bed.

Some of my favorites are because of the wonderful illustrations, but here are a few I always make sure my grandchildren have:
"Goodnight Moon" and "Runaway Bunny"
"Corduroy"
"Brown Bear, Brown Bear" and "Polar Bear, Polar Bear"
The picture books about Carl the rottweiler.
Anything illustrated by Stephen Kellogg like Pinkerton (about a dog), "The Day the Goose Got Loose", "Is Your Mama a Llama?"
Kindergarteners love Jack Prelutsky poetry ("A Pizza the Size of the Sun") and some Shel Silverstein, although his do bettter with slightly older children.
I also love the Helen Oxenbury version of the 3 little wolves and the big bad pig and her "Sheep in a Jeep" books.
'Kiddie Lit" was my favorite class in college when I was studying to be an elementary teacher...That was a while ago, but I bet you can find many of these in the library still.

infant & toddler -- But Not the Hippopotamus; Goodnight Gorilla
preschooler -- Duck and Goose; Blueberries for Sal; Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late; Owl Moon
young grade schoolers (picture books) -- The Ant and the Elephant; Belling the Tiger; Owly books (graphic novels)
young grade schoolers (chapter books) -- The Phantom Tollbooth
edit -- but you don't have to buy to find the ones you particularly appreciate. just go browse through your public library's children's section. for a head start, try the ones that the library recommends for different age groups (most libraries have a list of 50 or so recommended books for each group)

what's YOUR fashionable toddler's e book? Make way for Ducklings- a classic sturdy for each age what's your toddler's fashionable e book? the three twelve months old loves eco-friendly Eggs and Ham and the David books, the 5 twelve months old likes the flowery Nancy books, and the 7 twelve months old likes the Junie B Jones and the Fudge books. do you recognize of a few truly large e book titles that have an incredible style of which skill for the determine and the toddler? i think of it truly relies upon on each and each guy or woman. i like the classics, yet my young ones are not inspired by making use of Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel almost as much as i substitute into.
