Question about babies born at 35 weeks?
Have you, or anyone you know of, delivered a baby at 35 weeks? If so how big was the baby, and what, if any problems did the baby have? Alos, did the baby have to stay in the NICU, or did/her she go home when mom was discharged.
I work with premature babies born under 34 weeks, so I know about the problems premiees face, but I dont much about what happens at 35 weeks. I'm currently 35 weeks and 5 days, and dilated to 3 and 80% effaced. I've been on meds to stop labor, and 2 weeks ago was given steroid shots to help mature the baby's lungs, but just in case I was wondering. Thank you.

I had toxemia and went to the hospital once at 33 weeks due to some bleeding and was having contractions (dehydration) 2-3 minutes apart and was told that being 33 weeks it would be safe for me to have the baby. They would only give me fluids to stop the contractions. It worked! However I wasn't dilated or effaced.
I had my daughter on October 3rd at 35 1/2 weeks. She was born at 4lbs 4oz and was perfectly healthy (thank GOD)! She had a poor suck for the first couple days and a little jaundice but that's it!
She was going to come home with me the day I was discharged but couldn't hold her body temp. so they kept her 2 more days, no NICU!
She came home at 3lbs 15 oz
We were very blessed!
Good luck and good health to you and your baby!
Congrats

I was born myself at 35 weeks even. I went home with my mother, and weighed 6 lbs. even. Im perfectly healthy now besides anemia and some mild asthma. Which are both easily treated. And I was born in 1990, so a baby born in 2008 at 35 weeks has pretty good chances to be 100% healthy!! GOOD LUCK!!

Hello,
I have a son who was born @ 35 wks, he was 6lb14oz no lie! he is my miracle baby, I had lost a son@ 20 wks due to incompetent cervix so when I had found I was pregnant with my third, I was freaking out! I ended up gettting a cerclage @ 12 wks and bedrest from 20 wks onwards. I was given 4 sets of steriod shots to ensure lung maturity. I'm not going to go into the details of delivery b/c it was very traumatic and all but the end result was my sweet boy! He did spend 3 days in NICU b/c they broke my water and he was given preventionary medicine for risk of infection but since the day I brought him home, he has been a force to be reckon with!!
Good luck and be assured that the steriod shots make a real difference to the baby--at least they did with mine.

My son was born at 35 weeks by C-Section. I had pre-eclampsia and Gestational Diabetes. He is perfectly healthy. But, yes he did have to spend 2 weeks extra in the hospital in the NICU. He was born with a heart issue called SVT. He is now 2 1/2 and was on meds to control it for the 1st year of his life but he has out grown it. (YEA!!!!) Aside from that he was 8lb 4 oz. when he was born, they told me had I of gone full term he would of been well over 12 lbs. But he is doing great today!!

I delivered at 36 wks with both my boys. They both came home with me. First was almost 8 lbs and second was almost 9 lbs. Large for being so early but I was 100% sure on the dates. There was no NICU stay. I know they don't stop labor once you reach 36 wks because usually the baby is perfectly fine being born at that point with very low risk of complications. If you have gotten the shots of steroids and are almost 36 wks chances are baby will come home with you. I was given the steriods at 32 wks and put on terbutiline and bedrest and lasted until exactly 36 wks.

I have read that the baby should be ok if born now. The baby is gaining weight now. I am 36 weeks, lost my plug and having irregular contractions, but dilating and soft cervix.
I know that ideally, it would be best for our babies to come after 37 weeks.

My son was born 35weeks and a few days by an emergency C-section.
He was small 5 pounds 6 ounces, they had to monitor him for a few hours, to watch for breathing problems, but was fine.
The other problem we noticed is he had really poor "suck reflexes" and fell asleep when eating. I ended up not being able to nurse because of this and he had to be bottle feed
My son is now one and although he was a little slow on some of the developmental milestones you would never know now that he had been a preemie
