Have you received a Hitman e-mail?

A scam known as the Hitman e-mail that tries to get people to pay money to call off a supposed contract killing is right here in our home towns. Police have received three reports of e-mails that imply the sender has been hired to kill them and that they will reveal the identity of who ordered the hit for money.

“Don’t reply to those e-mails,” said Sergeant Collings of the Hamilton Police. “They circulate worldwide, and probably originate from outside of Canada.” Police ask people who receive such e-mails to contact PhoneBusters at 1-888-495-8501 or at www.phonebusters.com The Hitman e-mails are a new twist on the Nigerian scams that promise to make you uber wealthy. These messages first appeared last week. A Canadian anti-fraud call centre run by the RCMP and OPP, is also on alert.
