Demonising Parents?
This is a sort of poll. Scenario : The parents are seperated, divorced or maybe even dead.
How do you disuade others from saying bad things about the parent(s)? What is the effect on the child?
Let me qualify : Preventing a child from ever recounting a happy event without being told his/her mum or dad is bad.
Truth or reason having nothing to do with it. The adult hates the parent and is determined that the child will also.

Depends on the situation where the comments were made, what comments were made, and the age of the child involved. Generally speaking, the old rule about 'don't say anything if you can't say something nice' is a good one to apply and remind others to as well! There is probably little benefit to the kid to hear this sort of stuff and it's more than likely very inappropriate.

re: saying bad things about the parent(s)
......what if the 'bad things' are TRUE?
the effect on the child may be ok is what is said is the actual TRUTH - even if it hurts a little........kids can handle the truth way better than adults, IMO.
