Live alone now in a very old house in the French Alps. Not for much longer though. Moving on as soon as I can decide where to go. I ski, climb and like boats. Ive been accused of playing guitar, sax and piano but not at the same time. Three sons, all grown up if you believe 18 is grown up. Not so sure myself. I think 60 might be a better age for most men. Women seem to get their act together about age 6. (yea Im joking)

  • Why are you always smiling?

I admit I like the Philippines. There are some amazing places to see. The people generally don't have much going for them. A lot of poverty, kids that could really benefit from longer (free) education etc

Despite that I know that when I see a Filipino NOT smiling, I know the problem is really big.

Tell me what makes you people smile. I was met by a family at the airport once and those smiles were warmer than the sun, I swear.

Most Europeans go around looking like they were told they have a week to live.....six days ago. You people don't just smile, you radiate 'happy waves'.....How do you do it?

  • Feng Shui and floorboards?

My house was built in 1600 (ish). It was built as a pressoir and storage place for animal food (and sometimes animals) Im the first inhabitant in 150 years. The walls are all massive, granite and nearly a metre thick.

The lounge is 50 sq metres, no windows with a large double door on one end (glazed) facing south looking out on to a garden with an old apple tree. A single glazed door at the other facing north and looking out on to a steep hill higher than the house itself.

The room is rectangular 3:2 with a fireplace in the middle of the east wall and 16 heavy beams running west to east. The beams are stained in a light colour.

The floor is now concrete and I want a wood floor on top.

For good Feng Shui, which way should the boards run?

Paralel to the beams above or perpendicular?

  • Nasty nasty?

I live in france. In 2002 I helped my ex partner (not wife ever) to rent a house. I signed a 3 year lease with her and paid a 3 month deposit.

When the lease was renewed it was done without reference to me. I was not invited to renew, nor did I ask for it.

Now, in 2007 I find she has been evicted for non payment of rent.

The local justice says Im responsible for the unpaid rent. Can this really be the case?

  • Death of someone close?

I split up with someone six months ago. It was difficult for us both. We exchanged emails, text messages but both resolved that we were doing the right thing.

It got better and the 'missing' part was easier. I felt I could see her agian and not want to embrace.

She died suddenly (shes 35) last week.

I cant start to describe what I feel. No sleep, no food, nothing and Im out of the loop for funeral arrangements and the like.

I need to say goodbye. Anyone, please....

  • Digital Cameras?

I used to love photography. I loved also the suspence of waiting for films to be processed.....but Im biting the bullet and going digital.

Never considered digital. Do the new cameras allow you to overide aperture control and compensate on exposure? If so, how easy is it?

Is there much point is having more than 10 million pixels if the largest picture size is going to be A4?

What kind of memory do I go for to store the photos when out on a shoot? I take lots of photos.
