Will you please describe to me?
I know this is not a prayer request forum, and I respect that. But when a prayer request is made I have read from people who do not believe in prayer, "I'll think good thoughts.... or I'll keep you in my thoughts" I am trying to figure out how that is done, what exactly that looks like without it being a prayer. Every time I try to "think good thoughts" about a crummy situation, it becomes a prayer of some sort. So, will you describe a "good thought" to me?

For me, keeping a person "in my thoughts" is like thinking about them, not just fleetingly, but having them on my mind. Not worrying about them, exactly, but, I suppose, hoping they're okay, or they're going to be okay.
That's the equivalent of saying a prayer for someone, for me.
Rather than talking to a God, because I don't have one, I think about the person, because for me, we are connected, as we are all part of life on this planet. My "good wishes" go to them directly, rather than through an intermediary.
That's how I do it. I don't think it devalues the way other people do it, for me to do it my way. If prayer is their chosen way, then great, more power to them.
At the end of the day it comes down to caring about someone enough to make the effort, regardless of the method employed.

I think most people say that to be polite but I have said it to a close friend on occasion if they are having a rough time.
For me, if I were to say that to you, I would - quite literally - think about you through the day and think to myself that I hoped you were doing better.
Depending on the situation, I might even make you a box. I have been taught through a line of family ladies about sympathetic magic and we make boxes. So, let us say you were sick...I would probably make you a little box and decorate the outside while thinking of you and then inside I might put a picture of you when you were well and healthy. Then I might add a band aid or some aspirin or perhaps a calcium vitamin if you had broken a bone etc.
Since I don't have a literal single external god then I tend to simply think, send thoughts of good wishes, and then do actual real life things like bring chicken soup or call or offer to pick up something at the grocery store.

A "good thought" is the best way someone who doesn't pray can make themselves feel good about the fact that they are doing absolutely nothing for you.
This may not exactly an answer to your question, but, good thoughts from someone else is not going to help any situation you are in. Ask for prayer. If the person you are asking doesn't pray, find someone who does, and keep praying yourself.

Probably the difference between 'good thought' and ' prayer' is the same as between hope and wish.
A good thought is more the expression that I hope somebody will get well soon.
A prayer is (I don't pray, never have, so it's a random guess), the wish that one or more gods will come to help that particular person to get well soon.

BINGO!
It's like a prayer, that is why prayer is so calming and healing. I just don't believe in a creator.
I believe that when a group of people pray and express gratitude instead of helplessness with that prayer, then they will more likely act upon what they are wanting and manifest it.
Therefore, I am all for prayer or good thoughts when it is not in the victim mode, but in the empowering mode.

Rose,
When I think of a Rose, I get a beautiful picture in my mind. I believe that to be a "good thought". I am a Christian and I believe in prayer but that is what I feel is a "good thought" in my mind. Have a wonderful evening and a great week.
Thank You,
Eds

Perhaps they are trying to be polite and get an easy 2 points. Or maybe they are of the belief that "good thoughts" carry through the universe. Or it could be a prayer in disguise to some type of God/Goddess. Either way you should be please with the politeness of it. I would tell you to phone a helpline.

As a Pagan, if someone requests a "prayer" sometimes I will light a candle and meditate on the situation, sending my energies in love toward someone. Our spells and rituals are very much like your prayer; we focus on our deities and make our requests, pleas, thanks, joy, etc known to them. Thoughts are tangible things, the energy we send toward each other and toward the ends we hope to achieve are very powerful things.

Choice is thought, word, and deed.
Prayer is word.
Your thought be positive or negative or in between at all times. There are really only two emotions.
To think negative thought of another is shameful.
Hope it helps you.

i don't believe in any god/s...so I think positively....I just think about the situation, see if I can help in any way, think about how I wish things were different in this world. I guess you could say it is kinda like a football game....you hope your team wins, but you don't pray for it b/c that would be unnecessary and a waste of god/s time. Not exactly, but I can't explain it any better...sorry.
