    Napoleon had quite a few from Austerlitz and Moscow to the domination of central Europe,then there`s the 1st and 2nd world wars with the Free French from north Africa to those fighting under DeGaul

    Now that's a bit unfair. I know they capitulated inside 5 minutes in WWII, but in WWI the French actually sustained more dead than the British did in the trenches.

    Tell you what, though. Try that with "American military victories and defeats" and see what comes up. You'll be surprised!!

    This reminds me of that bit in Blackadder the Third, with Stephen Fry as Lord Wellington describing his snuff box motiff as being (and I paraphrase here) 'a pile of dead Frenchmen heaped on a pile of dead Frenchmen'.
