During Spring Training the MLB teams bring up a lot of their AAA, AA, and draft picks players so they can get a good look at them. So they actually have a lot more than the normal 40 player roster. They then split the players up into multiple squads thus being able to play at the same time in different places.

the squad is split into 2 teams

usually each team as many p[layers and wants to them some playing time and see what they can do the only way that some can play is to split them up and play at 2 different locations

Its quite common. All they do is split the squad into two teams. With so many minor league players in the major league camp and non roster invitees they have plenty players to field two teams. The managfer manages one team and one of his top coaches manages the other team.

They put the team in half which they call a split squad. One half goes to a road game and the other goes to their home game.

The Dodgers will be playing in TWO hemispheres, one team in Florida for the Western Hemisphere and the other Dodger team in China in Eastern Hemisphere.

    they play split squad.

the regulars and the A/AA/AAA players get together and split up for more playing time. also it to evaluate each player easier and everybody gets to play. :)
