Eating prior to being induced . . .?
I've looked up this question on here, and each time it was asked, there was about a 50/50 split in the answers. But I figured I'd ask for myself, as well.
I'm 40 weeks and 6 days. Last week, my doctor went ahead and scheduled an induction appointment for Tuesday, March 11 at 6am. I didn't think to ask if I would need to not eat prior to the induction. So yeah, would I be allowed to eat before the appointment? My mother insists that I shouldn't eat after midnight, in order to avoid throwing up the food during labor, but I don't see how I could possibly get through labor without having some kind of nutrients in me from eating.

There are a few reasons most physicians request that you don't eat prior to your induction. However it is advisable to contact your physician, especially if you have a condition where the benefits of eating outweigh the risks (such as type 1 or 2 diabetes), and your physician may have policies that state eating certain foods (like jello) are okay- if you are not able to eat ask if you are able to drink a fluid such as gatorade.
1- The intensity of labor can cause nausea
2- Medications to relieve pain can cause nausea
3- In an emergency (rare) situation you may need to go under general anesthetic, where vomiting may cause aspiration.
4- If labor takes a bit longer than expected the pressure from the head moving down the birth canal also causes pressure on the rectum which can cause your body to naturally expel the contents.

I have been induced twice and I was allowed to eat whatever I wanted. You need to keep your strength up. You don't know how long you will be in labor for. I did throw up a little during labor with my first child. But not with the second. You would probably do best eating small snacks rather than anything really big or heavy to help prevent stomach upset. But you will get hungry especially earlier on, maybe not so much once you have more pain near the end. Good Luck!

You can't eat after midnight the night before the morning of the induction. If you do you will NOT be induced. They do this because they want you to have an empty stomach in case you have a C Section. If you do have a C Section you could throw up and aspirate on your own vomit while on the table. That's why you can't eat.
So do not do not do not eat if you really want to be induced Tuesday morning. If you did and they ask and you say yes...you'll have to wait like 8 more hours before they'll induce you.
That is also why you can't eat DURING labor.
Good luck and congratulations!

while you're being dealt with for step B they'll start up that earlier the pitocin. It in simple terms desires to be on your gadget earlier your toddler is interior the start canal. Taking an enema "might desire to" help set off hard artwork although that is not likely. in case you have been advised to no longer devour do no longer devour or drink something. it is so as which you do no longer vomit for the time of hard artwork, or incase of a C-section. I purely had demerol, it made me experience gentle headed and that i did no longer like it lots. i became additionally brought on yet i did no longer choose the discomfort relief suitable away my contractions weren't that undesirable early. I did get an epidural after my water broke although.

eating before labor is a bad idea, since they plan to induce you, try not eat after the midnight hour, if there is anything in your stomach prior to labor it will come up because labore pain will make you feel very sick, therefore causing you to throw up. been there done that, my doctor definatly was right about that one.

When I went into labor, they gave me pitocin to make my contractions stronger, & they told me that it wouldn't be a good idea to eat in case I ended up needing a c-section because of the risk of aspirating on my own vomit. I did eat, & although I did not end up with a c-section, I did throw up some from the contractions.

when i got induced it took 2 days the first time, and 2 the second. i eat on the way to the hospital both times, cheeseburgers from wendy's. anyway, i only had an issue with the stuff they give you before a c-section, thats nasty.
but i would think if i did it you can to. you can check with the on-floor nurse if your worried.
good luck
best wishes

you can eat prior to checking into the hospital for your induction, but once you are at the hospital, they won't let you eat anything. Personally I'd eat beforehand as it may be a while before you can eat again.
