After the Bush tax cuts, why do I pay approx 10% more in income taxes than the richest man in the world?

Previous post (sourced)

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgLsq...

The richest man in the world pays 17.7% in income taxes.

Update:

ruth (below) Here is a quote from Buffett's interview:

"Mine came to-- 17.7 percent. That-- that was the-- that was line 61 I think-- or, no, line 43-- is the percent of taxable income, plus payroll taxes, 17.7 percent. The average for the office was 32.9 percent. There wasn't anybody in the office from the receptionist on that paid as low a tax rate. And I have no tax planning. I don't have an-- I don't have a-- an accountant. I don't have tax shelters. I just follow what the U.S. Congress tells me to do."

Update 2:

Smegma Boi (below) Actually, I lead a very comfortable life. Since I grew up poor I will never be "jealous" of another's income as money doesn't make me nor break me.

Neoconservatives seem to admire people with money moreso than others.

hmmmmm: The rich essentially pay the same percentage of taxes that the "middle" class does although there is a scale of taxation it is really not statistically different from one group to another. The less money collected in taxes the more money is spent or invested and it has to be one or the other. The more money spent or invested, the higher the GDP goes and since taxes are a percentage of GDP the more money is collected in taxes. The Clinton recession reduced GDP to 3% until FY 2004, after the Bush Tax cuts were actually felt, and then GDP went up (6%), increasing the money collected in taxes. The Clinton deficit of 2003 was 23% and the 2006 deficit was 9% so cutting taxes reduced the deficit by about 60% in three years. You can get the data at gpoaccess.gov or bea.gov. Bottom line is: Yes, I agree that the Pro-Slavery. Anti-civil-rights Democrats are just trying to oppress people the way they always have.

Actually you make a pretty good argument on why increasing the taxes on wealthy individuals and corporations don't work. You increase the tax rate and the wealthy move their money into investments with lower tax rates, whether its moving your factories and corporate headquarters overseas, or placing your money into investments that provide a tax shelter. The best tax structure would be one that didn't punish the wealthy but give them an incentive to make investments that creates jobs or otherwise aid the economy.

you dont. The richest man in the world doesnt pay USA income TAX because he is not an American.

also income tax is payed on income, not wealth already earned or in another countries banking system.

there is no way you pay a higher dollar amount or percentage of your earned income compared to the richest American.

92% of income tax collected by the IRS comes from 3% of the population...the rich. If anyone should cry the system is unfair its them.

The problem is you hav'nt earned what they have so you are jealous and want what they have. shame on you.

Because unlike you, he can afford to put his money in offshore accounts where it cannot be taxed and his lawyers spend time finding every loophole in the system. If you had his money you could to. That is not Bush's fault, that is the system's fault.

The richest man in the world... knows alot of tricks... and has a HELL of alot of accountants and lawyers working for him...

    to get that percentage.

He can also write off alot more than you can.

By the way... how many jobs do you provide compared to him in your area?

  • 1 decade ago

In theory? Because he creates jobs and wealth.

In fact, because rich people donate more money to political campaigns.

Blame the IRS not the bush administration.

Tax cuts go to the people who contribute MORE to the economy and create jobs.

You pay 10% more than $8,000,000?

    Wow. Capitalism rocks.

If not, your question makes no sense whatsoever.

Because he probably donates much of his income each year.

And you must be one of those greedy millionaires.
