Judaism was the religion Christ followed when on earth. When Jesus was on earth there was nothing called Christianity. It simply did not exist at that time. Jesus observed the traditional Jewish customs and feasts. He was a Rabbi. He taught from the Torah. How can I profess to love Christ and reject what Jesus taught?

I think that Christianity could learn a lot from the Jewish faith. Some Christians ignore the Old Testament. If it were not important Christ would not have taught it and quoted OT scripture. Christianity did not exist when Christ was on earth. There was only one true religion on earth that God Himself founded and that was Judaism. I love and embrace the Jewish people. I admire their knowledge of the Old Testament and feel we could learn much from them.No one knows Old Testament like the Orthodox Jewish people. They live it and study it. The Jewish people will always have my deep respect and friendship.

EDIT: MSB, I agree with you!

I hate to burst your bubble John W, but you can't have it both ways--you can't be Jewish and Christian at the same time.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

edit: uh, Rashida_Z, you're talking to someone who knows a little something about the religion he is belongs to. Many well-meaning people perpetuate the false stereotype of the existance of a Jewish race. For one to be Jewish he/she accepts one god and one god alone, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Once a Jew accepts a second god also, that person no longer is a Jew. The so-called "messianic jews" claim to be Jews who accept Jesus but to real Jews they are viewed not as Jews but as Christians. You can't have it both ways. If you think that Judaism constitutes a race, not just a religion, then you are sadly mistaken. Is there such thing as a Christian race? Aren't those who covert to Christianity considered full Christians and those who convert away from Christianity no longer considered Christians? Can you be both Christian and Hindu at the same time? Will other Chrisitans consider you Christian if you worsip Vishnu? Why do you consider Judaism any different? This borders on bigotry.

Edit: Scotty_84116 says "Christianity is the Jewish religion." I'll have to let my rabbi know. He must have skipped class that day in rabbinic school. Don't you realize how both ludicrous and arrogant that statement is? You are probably beyond hope but maybe some day you will come to your senses.

...and using your logic all Muslims are fanatical sadistic terrorists; all Pagans sacrifice and eat people on a daily basis; all Germans believe Jews were suckled from pigs; and all christians hate Egyptians and can daily murder them by drowning in the red sea! Just because the hard-line vitriol of a couple of idiots gets put into print does not mean the entire religion should be tainted. However, your point about turning the comments on their head being antisemitic is valid, but not limited to the Jewish faith; any derogatory comments against any person or group of people is wrong. People hold differing beliefs and want to live their lives in different ways - all the hard-line idiots should learn to live with it. If they can't live with it and continue with the vitriol they should all be had up for racism/incitement to religious hatred/disturbing the peace/public disorder offences......

I experienced one of my most spiritual moments in my life when I attended one of my student's Baht Mitzvah several years ago. This experience as well as interacting with many Jewish colleagues and other students have given me a very favorable view of Jews and Judaism.

While I am a Christian, I believe my views are more in common with what Jews believe than not. Worship God, show compassion, commit yourself to doing God's will...these are the essentials.

So Jesus plays no role in Judaism, and plays a significant role in my life. This and other differences are not so important that we cannot find common ground in spiritual and other matters.

In short, I have a deep respect and admiration for Judaism and Jewish people. It is sad to read about so many instances in history that Jews were degraded and violently attacked. I hope and pray that we are beyond that.

And this might sound cheesy...but I'm a huge fan of Matisyahu.

    Shalom

I have a bunch of friends who are Jewish or are of Jewish background. My best friend in high school was Jewish. They're regular people like everybody else.

As far as the religion, it's not my style, but it's not my religion so I don't have to follow it. I think it's interesting to learn about, but I don't want to be in it. Its history is really fascinating, and I love the emphasis on thinking and study in the religion. I also especially love the celebration of Freedom during Passover. One friend in particular has a fantastic modern Passover and invites everybody. It's really meaningful.

Ultra-orthodox Jews have a bad reputation in one of the counties I work in. I think this particular group is not well-understood by other people, and they also caused friction in at least one particular case by trying to get around certain county and township zoning laws, which is not fair to the people who voted for and abide by those laws.

Jews are cool I've had Jewish friends their religion teaches them how to live a better life and that is good. I'm a so called Christian and I know that Jesus is the only way!! Israel has a lot of Jewish people and it is also the apple of Gods eye and we are commanded to defend it...!

I'm half-Jewish, which is a little strange for a girl from a Middle-Eastern country. So, I really don't have anything against the Jewish religion. But, I do have something against a terrible person, whether they be Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, or any other religion for that matter. Bad people come in all types.

Ooo..I gotta see this! People are so fricking stupid these days; they assume that people are this and that because they're Jewish (you know, greedy, rude, etc.), but really it's because they are who they are!

EDIT: Marcus, a Jew is a Jew whether they like it or not if their mother is lawfully Jewish. If they go and start practicing Christianity, they're still Jewish by blood. If they go and worship idols, they're still Jewish by blood. Of course, under all of those conditions, they're clearly not faithful Jews anymore, but that doesn't take away they're natural Jewish blood.

  • I take my cue from the Apostle Paul on this one, specifically in Romans 11 & Galatians 3.6-14, and have a deep respect and gratitude for Jews and Judaism. As a Christian, my Old Testament comes from them, and the contextual, historical promises and revelation of God come from and inform my understanding of the Arm of the LORD throughout history, especially in His revelation of Himself in Christ.

God first decided to reveal Himself to a small, insignificant tribe and bless them. Then, through the Jews, Christians became a part of the family as "in-grafted wild olive branches". Jews, since they are that much closer to to the "tame olive tree", are that much more easily grafted in (you gotta love the horticultural motif, here!) and those Jews that believe will in fact be grafted back in (Romans 11.23)!

The whole idea that in the end anyone that believes is categorized as a child of faith in God's eyes, (a child of Abraham, someone who believes the promises of God) makes for a very wide net, for both Jews and Gentiles, to be granted mercy. And, God does delight to show mercy (Micah 7.18), so I cannot wait to see how this all shakes down!

Christianity is the jewish religion. The religion did not go astray, the Jews did. Christ only preached to the Jews and it wasn't until Paul that the gentiles were included. They met in the synagogs and the temple, and were subject to the High Priest. Paul apoligised for berating him. Eventually the Gentiles also rejected the apostles and prophets so now we are ready for a restoration, gentiles first and then Jews. The house of Israel will be gathered from all nations where they have been scattered. Jerusalem has been dedicated for the return of the Jews and over a million missionaries have been sent out since 1830 for the gathering of the house of Israel. (see acts 3:20-23)
