Would you vote for Obama if you knew he was really a Muslim?

This point is hard to deny on this information.

"In an interview with Nicholas Kristof, published in The New York Times, Obama recited the Muslim call to prayer, the Adhan, "with a first-class [Arabic] accent."

The opening lines of the Adhan (Azaan) is the Shahada:

"Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!

Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!

I witness that there is no god but Allah

I witness that there is no god but Allah

I witness that Muhammad is his prophet... "

According to Islamic scholars, reciting the Shahada, the Muslim declaration of faith, makes one a Muslim. This simple yet profound statement expresses a Muslim's complete acceptance of, and total commitment to, the message of Islam.

"Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent."

Update:

Sorry, here are the links again.

And would this question be any different if I asked if Obama was a scientologist? Religion and race are two completely different things. Religion reflects ones beliefs, and it certainly is reasonable to question someone on their beliefs. People who want to call me a racist are the ones who are the racists.

Update 2:

I wouldn't vote for a Scientologist, a Hari Crisna, a Nazi, a satanist, or any numerous beliefs systems that I find unacceptable, and that includes the Muslim religion. This link is why.

Say what you will, my reasoning is sound.

Update 3:

YES, to some people, the truth is hideous.

Update 4:

Yes, I know and have known many Muslims, and probably know a great deal more about the religion/cult than most if not all of you. I have arrived at my opinion after a long and arduous journey.

Wow! I read the other post's before I wrote this reply, and I have to say there is some strange people out there. Someone even seemed to believe that you can run for President and not be a natural born citizen, but anyway....

No I would not vote for him if I found out he was a Muslim. and it has nothing to do about the religon of Islam. This has to do with lying.

If it were to come out that he is or was a muslim, it would ruin his political life for two reasons. First, Americans are not ready to accept a muslim as President. It seems rather weird that they will accept other People that are very relgious and very intollerant, but not islam.

Second, He would of lied about his religous background. That is political suicide.

I have read the answers to your question, and I think the people mis-understood the question. The way I see it you laid out your case for him possibly lying about the religon issue, and that is completely fair point.

If he had said all along that he was a muslim, I think it is a non-issue. I don't think the people would support him as much as they do now, but he wouldn't be questioned about possible lying issues.

I don't think he has been straight on this issue, I do not think he is a muslim, but he did grow up in a muslim influenced area, so he probably has a good understanding of it. I believe his father was a muslim ( and if this is not true, I don't want to spread that) I think through a good portion of his life he had no religious intentions or strong beliefs. I think he, as many politcians do, joined the church the best got him elected.

First of all, a link to an opinion piece is not fact. Second his religion has been debated ad nauseum through these forums dozens of times. Third, he was born Muslim because his father was a Muslim, just as people born to a Jewish mother are Jewish. He was also raised as a child in the Muslim faith which explains his ability to recite the Muslim prayer with a "first-class Arabic accent" In both cases people can and do convert to other religions. He converted to Christianity over 20 years ago.

Finally, America is a nation based on Freedom and one of those freedoms IS religion. As there have been no definitive proof that he is part of a terrorist organization, I don't care what religion he is. It is a non- issue.

However there is definitive and unbiased proof in addition to his word that he is a Christian. The hysterical rants that he is Muslim are a cowardly way to attack him. Surely there must be something with more substance you can use other than the same old Muslim thing that has been beaten to death already.

Look, from the start I have never cared about his ethnicity, his teenage pot addiction, or his religion. Originally I too believed he was a Muslim because of the bullshit the media brought up to scare the bigots, but I never cared. He can do a thick Arabic accent because he went to a school in Indonesia during his childhood that had a large Muslim student body. Surely a few knew Arabic. He may also have done it to appear accepting of all religions, which he is. Sure, it may have been twisted (by you and others), but truthfully I don't give a damn who any candidate is so long as they align to my politics, have legal American citizenship, speak English, and are over 35 years of age. Otherwise, they can be whoever they want, unless I missed something important.

He has an accent because he knows how to speak other languages. Do now your going to penalize him for being bi lingual. He is a Christian, just how many times does a person have to say it for you to believe it? Are you a Christian? WOuld you like someone telling other people that you were not a christian?

Yes I would vote for him even if he was muslim because good muslims are very devote people. I will vote for him and he is a christian.

Im not muslim but I go to their events and talk to the people at the celebrations. I also talk to several people that can talk in many different languages, they are quite interesting people, better than most of the inbred hillbillies that are out there.

I checked both of your hideous links...but of course neither contained any information.

The only reason why I might be concerned is because he said he was a Christian, but it wouldn't make a difference to me if he was a Muslim at all. This is the United States of America...can you say that aloud for me 10 times. This is a nation in which religion is seperate from state. They are not one, they are seperate. If you do not understand this, try going back to your first grade history class and start from there.

He is the only one of the 3 that seem to have any connection with God, people, the environment and most of all his family. The others look like they are in pain when they have to hug or even be in the same room with their supposed "spouse" or "parent".

Obama's platform is one that makes sense. He is not spouting out empty rhetoric, but rather laying out comprehensive plans for our nation. He carries himself in an extremely dignified manner and represents all that is good in our society.

The entire world is watching this born charismatic leader, with hope that he will move front and center. I do not want a return to dirty politics and shame of the Clintons or WWIII with John McCain, but moving forward as a nation being lead by a voice of reason and change.

I feel more proud to be an American when I hear and watch him speak. I can see his sincerity and genuine concern for our nation.

But I must also emphasis a very important factor is that he is a true leader. He thought the war vote all the way through and found it to be unjust to vote for a US invasion on a country that showed no threat to us. I find this war to be the worse embarrassment in all of US history.

Anyone who voted for this war really holds very little value for American (or human & environmental) life, even though they tout the opposite. It is laughable that there are some with blinders on stating that she did not have a choice.

A strong minded intelligent leader would not vote for war without truly understanding what they were up against.

The fact of the matter is that Hilliary Clinton & John McCain voted for an unjust war that has not only killed (as of 7 days ago): 3,971 American service members, (2 Australians, 174 Britons, 13 Bulgarians, 1 Czech, 7 Danes, 2 Dutch, 2 Estonians, 1 Fijian, 1 Hungarian, 33 Italians, 1 Kazakh, 1 Korean, 3 Latvian, 22 Poles, 3 Romanians, 5 Salvadoran, 4 Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, 2 Thai,18 Ukrainians) Allied Forces and an Estimated 90,000 Iraqi civilians; which has not only crushed our national reputation, economy, the economy of Iraq and the American families and communities that the soldiers came from; but also has sent 28,773 young men & women home wounded, and of course it's not over yet.

If Senator Clinton and John McCain really cared so much about the lives of Americans; they wouldn't have voted for a war that our great grandchildren will still be paying for.

It is also quite interesting that they would be in agreement with President GWBs war and causing global unstability.

Let us not also all forget the public hanging of Saddam. O yes, what a great experience record. What a laugh.

Susan Eisenhower, Former President Eisenshower's (You remember Pres. Eisenshower, who also though JFK didn't have enough experience and later changed his mind) lifelong Republican granddaughter, summaried it best:

"Given Obama's support among young people, I believe that he will be most invested in defending the interests of these rising generations and, therefore, the long-term interests of this nation as a whole. Without his leadership, our children and grandchildren are at risk of growing older in a marginalized country that is left to its anger and divisions. Such an outcome would be an unacceptable legacy for any great nation."

The happiness of this nation is not about religion as it is abou policy and respect for all that we share this planet with. Hey, this even includes YOU.

He supports the Muslim religion and so do terrorists, why would you even consider voting for a man that won't put his hand over his heart when our national anthem is being played because he says " It's against my religion".

    Simple answer: NO.

Longer answer: There is nothing anyone could say, that would give me a REASON to vote for him. Being a Muslim would be "just one more reason" to not vote for him.

HE is not qualified to be President of the U.S., neither is Hillary Rodham Clinton. BOTH are liars, with an agenda that will harm OUR Country.

  • 1 decade ago

not trying to be mean here but...

have you even met a Muslim?

not an extremist but a normal one... at school or work or whatever?

and if Obama is a Muslim or not, as long as he's a good guy that's all i care about...

(but it would so rock if he was... kinda sux if he's hiding it tho...)

  • 1 decade ago

His personal beliefs, if he is Muslim he has kept it very secretive. I would vote for him anyhow, that's not what I'm concerned about, I'm concerned about the well-being of the country, not any spiritual satisfactions that can be self-full filled.
