Confused whether to stop antibiotics due to rash of having mono...?
About 10 days ago, I was (mis)diagnosed with sinusitis. So, I was given a 14 day prescription of amoxicillin. I am 8 pills away from finishing the prescription, but I was diagnosed with mono (probably what I've had all along). I broke out in rashes today because -cillins and mono are not supposed to be taken together and lead to rashes (and worse). I am worried whether to stop taking the medication (which could lead to bacterial resistance) or suffer 4 days of incredibly itchy and embarressing rashes. I can't afford to go to the doctor again because CentraCare has stolen all the money with my first 3 visits. Any help or suggestions???
It's taken 2x a day.. so 8 pills = 4 more days
(mis)diagnosed is my thought. It is still possible that it was diagnosed properly

if you have a rash, frankly, I would stop the medication. Especially if you think you didn't have sinusitis to begin with. You are talking about a potentially dangerous drug reaction, yes it can get worse. In future, tell doctors you are allergic to the cillins.

bacterial resistance probably wont happen with just one time of not fully taking an antibiotic. However the rash can lead to worse things like your throat swelling shut. I would stop the antibiotic.

If I were you, I'd rather run the (slight) risk of bacterial resistance than the risk of anaphyactic shock. There's only a very slight risk that you'll encounter bacterial resistance...and besides...it was a misdiagnosis in the first place...it's never good to take antibiotics when you don't really need them.

it could be normal - menses can be short sometimes. it is possible to have some spotting if you get pregnant, around the time of your normal period. it is not too early to take a pregnancy test. may want to do that, just for your peace of mind. good luck.
