Ok, this may be a stupid question . . .?

I posted a question a few days ago about eating before having labor induced. I got the chance to talk to my doctor today and asked him, and he said to not eat anything solid after midnight tonight but liquids are fine.

My question is this: would a milk-based product be ok (ie. chocolate milk or a milkshake), or would that be a bad thing to try to drink? My mother said something about doctors considering milk to be a solid, and I just wanted to see if that's true.

I wouldn't injest anything but water. Follow your doc's directions and if you have questions, ask. Milk can make you very nauseaus. I'm sure there are other reasons besides that, that you're not supposed to eat. I've never had labor induced but have had 2 c sections and the same rules apply. If they know you've had anything but water, they will delay the induction. I wouldn't risk it.

if your doctor has said liquids are fine - I assume this also includes milk. He surely would have said "just water" if he'd meant that - liquids are processed through the body and stomach much quicker so having a milky drink the night before should be OK. Its also about you feeling comfortable too so I'd check if you are allowed a warm drink with milk in the morning - I wasn't allowed any food or drink (just water) once my labour started and I was sooooo hungry and dying for a cup of tea throughout it!

Good luck and all the best for you and your new baby

The reason why Doctors dont want you to eat solids when induction of labor is going to happen is because if you need a c-section they or if they give you anything for pain they dont want you vomiting and obstructing your airway when they put you under or sedate you or anything like that. I would think that milk would be fine. It will be out of your stomach before you are induced. Just go light cause you dont want to be constantly getting up to pee either.

Doctors dont want you to eat anything just in case they need to do surgery. If you having a natural labor you could eat anything you want. anything Milk isn't the best thing to eat though (if your dr. says no eating)... if your hungary eat something..its your body and the last thing you need is to have hunger pain along with labor pains. Being induced also is a sure sign you'll be waiting awhile before you go into active labor. With my 3 kids I always had jello and fruit handy (where no one could see ha ha) good luck

yes, most doctors do consider milk products a solid. (think of a milkshake like yogurt...a no-no)

Don't try and push it...its best for YOU and baby that you do not eat anything, just to on the safe side!

Milk settles in your stomach like a food so no you can't have milk but you could have clear liquids like water, 7-up, sprite...

yeah i wouldn't drink anything with milk. Stick to clear liquids.
