Cannot partition on Vista Home Premium Laptop, any suggestions?

In Disk Management Console, I see the C drive, can "shrink" the volume (using the recommended size), but when I attempt to create a simple volume with the unallocated space, I receive a message: "There is not enough space on the disk to complete this operation." I even lowered the recommended size and still receive these numbers. This is a brand new Laptop, factory installed OS.

Try Symantec's "Partition Magic", go to http://www.symantecstore.com/

and see if they have a Vista compatible program out yet. They probably do.

You might consider setting up your system as a "dual boot" system, where you have the options of using either XP or Vista when you boot.

That will help take care of some of your older programs that will not run under Vista.

    http://classes.cnet.com/

has an online class on exactly how to do that.

They have others, too. Soon you can be answering questions rather than asking them!

I bought the full version of Vista ultimate and when I first installed it on my home built computer it gave me the option to partition my 750 gig HDD which I did. I'll be darned if I can find it though and worse yet I spent $50 on Partition commander 10 professional and it won't even work with vista unlees I pay an additional $10 for the patch! Which they can kiss my rear! I'm not sure what you can do but if you visit microsoft website they have the info pertaining to that issue, g-luck
