my computer says I was infected with an unknown trojan?

I keep getting this annoying popup,"your computer was infected with an unknown trojan. Then it prompts me to download something to fix it. This computer is only 2 weeks old and has norton and bit defender installed. We installed bit defender today as a precaution....thinking the norton was not workin or something. Help me fix my New computer, please!!!!

Since you've only had your computer for 2 weeks I recommend using System Restore to restore it to before it had this problem.

heres how to do it in Vista

Also since you've only had your computer for 2 weeks I recommend uninstalling Nortons as it's only a trial version anyway, and beyond not being highly rated at catching stuff, it will slow your system to a crawl.

To keep your computer clean I recommend Kaspersky Download a free trial here, and buy it if you can afford to, it's good

First of all, don't download what it suggests...

I'm assuming that you are either still within the Norton Trial Period, or that you bought it, so uninstall Bitdefender as you should only have ONE antivirus program on your computer. If you are just on the trial period of Norton, and don't intend to purchase it when the trial ends, then uninstall it now, and install AVG in its place. For these uninstallations, use RevoUninstaller.

    Then, do the following:

Step 1: Make sure that your antivirus program is up to date.

Step 2: Visit the Google Pack website, and use it to download Spyware Doctor.

Step 3: Download and install ThreatFire.

Step 4: Make sure to use Mozilla's Firefox from here on out. Also, install the Adblock Plus add-on for it.

Step 5: Make sure that you have a firewall program on your computer. If you don't, install Comodo.

This is just a quick summary of what you should do. For other recommended programs, and their optimal settings, visit my guide on the matter.

You got hijacked. The message you got was placed onto your computer by you visiting a site that had the malware waiting in the background. First, roll your computer back as far as you can using a restore point dated before the first time you started getting these messages. Then once this is done, go out and get a good piece of security software and install it on your system. My main recommendation is TrendMicro's Internet Security suite, the 2nd one that's really good is Kaspersky.

“Your computer was infected by Unknown Trojan” is a fake popup message generated by rogue anti-spyware programs (IEDefender, FilesSecure). Some real trojan horses (Trojan.Zlob, Trojan.Downloader) will display excessive popup advertisements that your computer was infected by unknown trojan to tirck users to purchase commercial versions of promoted rogues. Unknown trojan message can slow your browser and cause serious system errors.

DON'T DO IT. It tells you that you have a trojan, and tells you to download that thing. But when you download it, it downloads a real trojan, and then you have to pay money for a fix.

    Download a legit spyware system.
