Can anyone help me pick Bagpipe wedding music?
My daughter is to marry a Scotsman in October this year and we are going to book a Piper for the ceremony as a surprise. I really need to find some bagpipe music that would be suitable for the occasion. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi there,
we had bagpipes for our wedding and after the initial meeting we realised that we would never be able to decide exactly what we wanted him to play, so we just met with him so he could get an idea of us and our personalities and also described the wedding to him and just let him have free range on the day to play what he thought was suitable... sorry thats not much help but i remember when he played a few tunes for us that they sounded so very similar some are a bit more boppier (maybe not the best choice of words) and some are more serene... might be something to consider thought! if your in sydney i can recommend a great guy!!

After playing for 29 yrs, I would recommend it NOT be a surprise. Often the music picked out isn't what the bride and groom might want, and more importantanly, do they even want a piper? I played for a "surprise" at a wedding where I was requested to play Scotland the Brave immediately after the minister introduced the couple and lead them down the aisle. I started up and the bride broke into tears. She cried all the way down the aisle because she looked at me as a rival stealing her thunder on her day. We got outside the church and she ripped into her mother about me playing. OOPS..that's a bit awkward. I would recommend talking to the bride and groom first, getting their input and let the piper choose tunes that are appropriate. You don't want to choose something he's not familar with and insist he learn it ( I charge extra for that !). I also wouldn't insist upon some schlock like AG or Danny Boy. Good Luck

The website Tinkerbell suggested looks great. I would also suggest Scotland Forever. Amazing Grace may be cliche, but it is very sentimental, I know I will use it because it has personal meaning for me, but I know I have to time it to avoid hearing it and crying. Since he is Scottish, I would avoid Danny Boy and other songs that give an Irish feel. Get suggestions from his parents. Definitely work with the piper closely on song choice and timing because it can affect the feel of the event greatly, as well as the volumn level.

There's a lovely piece called "Road to the Isles" that I've heard at weddings. Not only is it pretty, but there's the Isle/Aisle pun, and that amuses me.
Then again, I'm easily amused. ;)
Best wishes.

How about Bridge Over Trouble Water - like in the film Intolerable Cruelty?

Amazing Grace is good for any occassion but why would anybody want to ruin a their wedding day with the godawful sound of bagpipes?!
