There are many variables, such as size, gender, and the amount of food in your stomach. As a general rule, each drink raises your level approximately .02, but your body processes almost that much in an hour. (A drink is a 12oz beer, 4oz wine, or 1 shot of 80 proof liquor.)

So, by that formula, .08 multiplied by 2 1/2 is .20, which would be 10 drinks in an hour. If it was over one hour, add one drink per hour from the time they started, until the test was given.

    Two important things about alcohol:

    1. It is ingested, not digested. This means it passes directly into the blood without changing. About 20% passes through the stomach walls, 80% through the small intenstine. In an empty stomach, this happens quickly. Food in your stomach absorbs alcohol, so it cannot enter the blood until the food is digested. This slows it down significantly.

    2. Alcohol has an affinity with water. A male's body is approximately 68% water, a female about 55%. This means with less water in a female, the alcohol level will rise faster than the same sized male drinking the same amount.

It's very unlikely that a healthy person would be 2.5 times the limit on 'only 2 bottles of lager'. People almost always understate the amount they had to drunk when they are found drunk behind the wheel. It would take a considerable amount of alcohol to put someone this level over the limit, although it is not possible to say exactly how many pints etc. as this varies from person to person. In some very rare cases an individual can have a medical problem that could cause adverse readings such as this, but this is so rare as to be negligible and it would be up to him/her to prove the existence of any such condition. Your friend has been criminally irresponsible and should take the punishment that will no doubt be handed out by the Court. Indicentally, it is more than likely that before they are allowed to apply for their licence back that they will have to undergo an extensive medical examination in order to prove to a doctor that they don't have an alcohol problem given the excess over the legal limit.

It varies a lot depending on the persons size, weight, gender, and tolerance.

But as I understand it, typically, 1-2 beers will put you at the legal limit, and with you lose about 1 beers' worth of alcohol about every hour. So in theory, 1-2 beer per hour and you will stay at about the legal limit.

I do know that women have less tolerance then men, so if your friend is a female, that would make more sense that she was over.

It depends on the person themselves, you take weight, whether they've eaten or not, on an empty stomach alcohol is absorbed into your bloodstream much faster, and yes, even a person's sex determines amounts.

If your area is 0.08 to be impared, a person at 5'10', 170 lbs., and has eaten, and is male, it would work out to 7.5 ozs. of hard stuff at 80 proof.Over a period of 1 hr.

Don't try this if you're out and driving!!!

without weight and gender, this question can not be answered.

A 95 pound woman is going to be over the limit long before a 300 lb guy.

    BTW..almost every DWI collar I've had...has had 2 beers...

    really big ones.

It varies depending on the individuals size. It has nothing to do with gender. It depends on the alcohol, also. Beer is different from a mixed drink and mixed drink is different from a shot of whiskey. There is a "Drink Wheel" that will calculate this for you. Go to http://www.intox.com/wheel/drinkwheel.asp

everyone is different due to body and other factors.

In general, to blow a .20 ( .08 x 2.5) you would need 5 to 8 drinks. That would be beers, or glasses or wine, or 1oz shots of hard liquor. But if you drank very fast, it might be less.

Very Very hard to fight the blow meter. I think they may be lying to you about how much they drank.
