eBay listing pulled. They claim fee circumvention. How can they think that?

eBay have just pulled a listing of mine for what I'm thinking is no good reason at all.

I have a static caravan I want to hire out over Easter (I'm working so can't use it) but didn't want to put fixed dates down, more use this listing for information purposes and let people mail me with what days they wanted so I could see if those days were free.

On the listing, I made it very clear that once all questions had been answered by both parties regarding the hire, I would make a special eBay listing for that person to Buy It Now and complete the transaction.

For this reason, I asked for people not to bid on the auction but eBay have pulled it saying I am trying to circumvent fees.

I'm not! In fact, because I will have to list the Buy It Now, eBay will be making more money in fees from me than they would have done if the auction had been allowed to run its course.

Why can't I post an information listing then put in a proper listing which I can suit to the buyer?

If you read ebays rules and regulations, it says right on there you CAN NOT POST INFORMATIONAL LISTINGS!!!!!!!!!! It has to be an item that can be bought. I completely agree with ebay on this one.

  • Try this new auction http://www.cerbid.com/ … FOX 11 and KTLA5 said that this is the best ebay alternative and they will be bigger then Ebay by 2010. Cer Bid opened on march 10th 2008 and they already got over 250,000 registered members…. That’s what news said but for some reason there is only like 1 item for sale… I guess all buyers… Well try it I also registered on the site and I just love all stuff I can do there.

Sorry, but I think I have to side with eBay on this one. Although you appear to be an honest person, there is no guarantee that you will in fact do what you say you are going to do. From their perspective you are just using their site to find potential clients for free.

You have to understand that eBay gets defrauded out of fees all the time so they have to be strict and stick to the rules.

You could easily strike up a private deal once you have made some contact with prospective buyers without relisting it in "BUY IT NOW".

Therefore ebay would not gain from the deal.

Because Ebay didn't know that you were going to create another listing. As far as they knew, you could have done the deal outside Ebay. They exist to make money. Don't be surprised...

Create a valid listing showing dates and prices etc.

    Simple.

for a situation like this you have to post the information as reguards to contacting you for time avalible to hire.. the cost/listing price should be refered to as a cleaning / maintence fee for services provided...there are back doors to ebay all over the place...I / Others have and do do it all the time... If you need help contact me

http://www.cerbid.com/ ??? are you kidding me they have 4 items in there whole system...yeah...go there...dont waste your time

Just relist it as a buy it now, and explain to the buyer not to buy it until details are confirmed.

I think ebay just didn't like the way the ad was worded, and misunderstood your intention.

Because E-Bay is an auction site to SELL things not to advertise them. By attempting to advertise your caravan on E-Bay you were contravening their regulations.

Sell your answer for £1. That gets round it.

  • i think eBay are right, sorry

it is a market place for goods for sale ,, you should list the dates available and sell them
