I just inherited a beautiful dresser but the inside of the drawers REEK! What to do?

This dresser was a wedding gift to my grandmother (1920s), and it is absolutely beautiful. If I can't get the smell out of the drawers though, I will not be able to use it. Does anybody have a miracle fix for this problem?

Update:

Oh, I forgot. I can't use anything like dryer sheets or sachets (nothing sented), they make me sneeze.

Update 2:

Sorry, scented

Stick a bowl of baking soda or charcoal without lighter fluid into each drawer and change every week or so. Do this until the smell is gone. Another alternative is to take the drawers out and set them in the sun and without the drawers in it, set the dresser in the sun for the day. You may need to do this two or three days in a row but it works. I would avoid treating it with liquid as it may warp the wood.

I also inherited a beautiful bedroom set and couldn't get the smell out of the drawers. I tried everything you can think of. I called professionals out and they steamed cleaned the draws and wiped them down with some kind of chemical. It cost me $500.00 but the whole sit was cleaned and looked like knew. It was worth the money.

Try some of the enzyme odor remover available at pet stores. You usually use it for cleaning up pet urine smells but if it can handle urine it can handle just about anything.

It may take a few applications because whatever is making the smell has probably soaked into the wood.

Line them with vinyl shelf paper (self-sticking kind) on the bottoms and sides. Make sure the edges overlap for a good seal.

    air them out

spray a light mist of vinegar on them and let them air

get a cedar veneer to line them with

but a small bowl of baking soda in each drawer and leave them closed for a while
