Will impending death cause you to live better or give up and die?

I just finished watching a video called the last Lecture by Dr. Randy Pausch given in September 2007. I am always the last to catch onto these things, but it was so inspiring I thought I would share with my friends here on R&S. It is 10 minutes, so star it and watch it when you have time.

Question: How would your religion or lack of it cause you to behave with your final 6 months of life?

Have a wonderful night all...

Irvin Yalom calls this type of experience, along with other similar ones, a "boundary experience," meaning your come face to face with the reality of life-- that one day in the relatively immediate future, I will cease to exist. As such, 2 things can occur:

    1. You deny this reality (unconsciously) by doing, thinking, feeling (for lack of better terms) certain things that help avoid the anxiety caused by this reality.

    or

    2. You embrace this reality, which almost always brings on both grief/sadness/immediate fear, but with it often comes an authentic appreciation for life, and all it has to offer.

    GREAT question!

READ IT BEFORE VOTING IT OUT

According to psychology we--humanity must be aware that death is part of life therefore we must live life to the point that we will enjoy the life we have lived. Some would live their entire life regretting things done or not done, some live life in joy and laughter others will have lived most of life in pain and in grief for incidents that have occurred in his or her life, some will live with hope others none at all, some will aspire to succeed while will be bond by limitations of sorts, others will live life hoping for a future in an everlasting life while others will live life until they die and period for they limit what they do not believe or grasp due to the limits they have set for themselves--rationality to explain life and logic of which is fine but there are things that are based on faith--expecting things not seen but expected---faith.

What one believes is his or her belief or idea/notion therefore the concept of this is based on what the individual perceives to be true---no life after death, life eternal. Now, where does this concept or idea/notion derive from---God, men's own creation, fairy tales, dreams, auditory voices?

I would spend it enjoying life. Remember the movie with Queen Latifa? something like that. See you later, enjoy you and have a good night. Peace out

I would hope that I can stay strong for my 4 girls. I would spend as much time with my kids and their kids as I could. I would go visit all the places we always put off because of Kids or money or time.

I would finally get all my affairs in order. I would try and spend time with all my family, sisters I have not seen in years and the ones I see all the time.

That is kind of hard for me to answer, because I would love to go see things I have never seen, but then again, I would want to spend it with my family.

I've seen his lecture on Youtube before. I suppose I would continue to go on doing what I normally do every day. Perhaps I'd hug my kids more often and perhaps I might start having fits of worry and depression as to how others will get on when I'm gone.

    Other than that.....

If I knew I only had six months, I would do as much as I could that I have dreamed of. With no worries or being scared, or not having money. Not having money is what stops me now. I would not let that stop me.

i'd cry alot because of my kids. i live for my kids and it would break my heart to leave them and have them raised by someone else, not knowing how they'd turn out.

saying that, i would probably spend every waking moment with them, doing things that THEY enjoy so i could see their smiles continuously until i left this plane of existance.

i hope that never happens to me. i don't think my religion plays into that at all.

    excellent question:

i think ones base character is revealed, and i don't mean the stages of greif they would experience, but how they would live

all of us are under a sentence of death, that we do not know the day or the hour is a gift
