Can I substitute olive oil for vegetable oil?

I want to make a cake and I'm out of veg oil, can I use extra virgin olive oil instead? And if not, will it make it taste funny or will it not bake right?

I am always hesitant with substitutions. I was once out of oil when baking brownies and there was hot oil in the cupboard and I thought it wouldn't make a difference..it was oil right?

I was pregnant and I really wanted brownies. So I made them and when they were done I took one bite and threw up..lol

I say wait till you get oil just to be on the safe side.

It would suck to try a substitute and have it not work out...especially if you are really craving cake!

I am a cook, and I'd suggest not to use EVOO instead of veg oil, b'coz the latter is used to add softness and texture to the cake(due to its fat content), which olive oil cannot provide. Try using 1 more egg or use 2-3 tablespoons regular butter or margarine. You can even add 1/4th to 1/2 cup whole milk to get the same consistency for the cake:) check out the recipe here which doesn't need oil. You can even use it if you are using a cake mix:

It may effect the flavor since extra virgin Olive oil has a very distinct taste. You could use apple sauce, mashed banana or even melted butter with better results. Good Luck!

I don't think it will make it taste funny and shouldn't make it not bake right. I guess it depends on how much you had to use. I have substituted olive oil for veggie oil and never had a problem.

Fruits are the immediate way to obtain vitamins, proteins, and electrolytes, so over body may easily absorb them. Found in the case of veggie some of the immediately eatable but some need to cooked well for enhance their taste.

Yes you can sub it. If th ecake has lots of flavors going on, you won't taste it. Some Italian cakes call for EVOO! If you have regular OO (not EV) that is not as strong, that might be best.

NO! But you can use real butter, same portions...half cup oil, half cup real butter, [one stick] same thing...butter tastes better!
