why don't the candidates spend billions of $$ on helping the economy instead of campaign ads?

i would vote for them.... the negative ads against the other guys, and the 'hey look at me, i'm the greatest' ads for themselves mean nothing to me. why don't they put that money to good use instead of wasting it on television time?!?!

Why don't Americans get active and demand campaign reform? As long as ANY candidate can buy TV time, ad space, then the other candidates are pretty much forced to follow suit. I think they should get an equal amount of air time, print space, whatever -- and it should be provided as a public service like our Interstate Highway or National Parks Systems -- so that MONEY is no longer a factor in chance of winning. Then our elected official won't owe any "favors" to the big contributors.

Buying ad time DOES help the economy. Spending is what makes the economy work, so more spending does help.

I completely agree with you but reforming the campaigning system would cause a lot of arguements and disagreements. It would be wonderful if all that money was spent towards better uses but unfortanetly, it's their money and they can spend it however they want.
