LDS, what are some of your favorite church songs?
For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me.....
D&C 25:12
I love music. It can be so uplifting and fill your heart with joy. I believe there will be music in heaven.
What are some of your favorite church songs?
Do you like Hymns, Inspiration, Contemporary, or the Mormon Tabernacle Choir?
I already see some really great songs. I also like:
Praise to the Man
A Poor Wayfaring Man
Praise to the Man
The Spirit of God
I Stand All Amazed
Strength Beyond My Own
Oops!! I listed Praise to the Man twice. =0. Well, I really do like it a lot. ;-)
Rubber Ducky, that is great that you are learning the piano. I would love to learn to play the piano, again. I took lessons for 5 years as a child, but sadly it didn't stick with me.
Rachael, Is this the song you're talking about?

My favorite hymns are The Spirit of God (because I love the words and music), Now Let Us Rejoice (because I love the words and music), I Believe in Christ (because the Spirit is strong when I hear it), Praise to the Man (because Joseph Smith is like my hero), A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief (beautiful words and lyrics, plus it reminds me of the Prophet), There is Sunshine in My Soul Today (because it's happy and light and fun to sing), and Come Come Ye Saints (cheers me up and make me appreciate my ancestors).
And pretty much anything by the Tabernacle Choir rocks!
I'm kind of excited... I've been teaching myself to play the piano and I've gotten myself to the point where I can *almost* play hymns without breaks every now and then when I try to figure out the notes. It takes me awhile to figure it out but my goal is to be able to play them in church someday. :D
Source(s): EDIT: Thank you! Yeah, it's been kind of difficult because I've never had lessons and I have no musical experience. I had a friend teach me how long the notes are supposed to be held and how to read notes, and I just have taken it from there. I love it! I really wish I had learned to play sooner. - ?Lv 45 years ago
First off, ignore Annsan's answer as it is riddled with errors and has an obvious bias. I grew up Presbyterian and attended many similar Protestant churches during my adulthood. I remember sitting there for all those years and saying to myself that this just doesn't make sense. Why doesn't God talk to us anymore? What is the world is the Trinity all about? How can Jesus be God but we call him the Son and then we turn around and call God the Father every week when we pray? So, I found the LDS church 2 years ago when I was 36 years old and it changed my life. I have a personal connection with God now and the gift of the Holy Ghost. Another thing I could never understand was why people would have to go to Hell if they weren't baptized. I remember asking my Mom what happened to little babies and she had no answer other than God will take care of it. The LDS Church has a beautiful doctrine about the plan of salvation that can give everyone a chance to accept Jesus and obtain a glory in His Kingdom. The LDS Church has changed my life since now I am getting married to a beautiful LDS woman in a few weeks and then in six months we will be sealed for time and eternity. We believe that families can be together forever.

All of the above. There really isn't a bad church song out there.
My favorite hymn is probably "Lead Kindly Light". Although I also like "A Poor Wayfaring Man". "Praise to the Man" and "I know that my Redeemer lives" are really fun to play on the piano. You can do a lot of little extra things with those songs.

Awake and Arise (#8)--
If you listen to it, the music so perfectly reflects the words in the first verse-- so cool!
"The last and the greatest of all dispensations has BURST like a dawn o'er the children of men..."

Although the song in My Turn On Earth has been running through my head since Sunday... "My Story" is pretty great, too.
