When is this baby coming? 6 cm dilated & 70% effaced?

Today is 3/18 and I’m not due until 3/26. However, 3/13 I was 4cm dilated/70% effaced/ 9 bishop score/ baby location -1 and I had membranes stripped. I was told by midwife I would not make it to 3/16.

Well, I did, and 3/17 (yesterday) I went in again and had progressed to 6 cm and had membranes stripped - again. Midwife said I won’t make it 24 hrs. I went home and had contractions 30-45 minutes apart until I went to sleep. Today, I’m thinking it’s the big day but NO contractions– maybe one or two all day!!! What’s up with that? Baby is moving fine. I’m sure I’ve dilated even more since I had contractions yesterday. So, when is this baby going to come already!?

Is it possible that I’ll make it to next Sunday 3/23?

Update:

Yes, I'm in the US. Actually midwife said that if I want to go to the hospital to be admitted I could. That if I don't get contractions, they'll break my water. I was afraid of that because during my first pregnancy I was induced and they broke my water and I developed an infection and had to have an emergency c-section. So I opted to go home and finish some homework thinking my contractions would get closer together because they started right away after getting my membranes stripped.

Is there really a chance to get infection due to dilation even though my water didn't break yet?

I was 4+ and completely effaced (paper thin was what I was told) 5 days before I went into labor (I didn't have my membranes swept, though).

If it's any consolation, I was only in labor for 8 hours, 9 minutes from first contraction to baby being completely out.

PS...you don't need your waters broken. The waters provide cushioning for both you and baby. Plus, once your waters are broken, you're "on the clock", and they'll c-section you if baby isn't born "quickly" enough.

As long as your waters are intact, and baby's moving, no worries. S/he'll come when he's ready, and I would bet (not guarantee, but bet) that it'll be a quick labor.

I have never heard of anyone in the United State not being admitted at 6 cm. Are you in the United States?

Not saying it does not happen. i just have never heard of it before now.

Hun, I do not think you will last more then two days. Infact I hope your packed and ready to go..

But it really bothers me your at the 6cm. The risk of infection and well, wow your so close. 0-6 is normaly the longest time of labor.

Go take a shower and massage your nipples. That may help stimulate more contractions.

Drink a large glass of water and take a walk around the block.

Stripping membranes can bring labor anytime within 3 days if it's going to do anything. Dilation and effacement is no gauruntee. Your body and baby will decide. My mother in law was 6cm for a week and a half with my husband. It sounds like whenever labor does come it will go FAST so be ready.

salam sister, usually when the membranes are swept you will have ur baby within 3-4 days if it is effective!

i had my membranes swept a 5 am and the same day at 7pm i had my baby boy, so good luck and hope tha labour doesnt take too long!

hoping for an easter baby huh?? Me too lol.. Im due on the 26th as well, but am hoping baby will come on Easter.. Well just be excited!!! Im sure its nerve wrenching to have to be waiting so long!! I guess your baby isnt ready to come out yet, so just try and relax and get plenty of rest...You MIGHT make it to sunday, but I really don't think you can stay at 6 CM for that long.. Its all on the baby and when he/she is ready... Congrats To you and your family =) And good luck!!

if your at 6 cm I'm suprised your not in full blown labor they usually send you to the hospital for delivery at 4 cm. when they strip the membranes you usually go in to labor with in 24-36 hours but if you are at 6 cm it sounds to me that you are already in labor. I went in at 2 cm and had my baby the same day. once you get that far in to it it usually doesn't slow down.

Nope. You want contractions? Make your breasts think a baby is suckling. Have your hubby make a little deposit vaginally. His sperm and palpating your breasts create oxytocin, which will set off contractions.

You will probably go before Saturday. But only when your body is ready.

Guessing is a futile waste of time.

And your doctor is down right cruel to be giving you time lines he/she knows can NOT be predicted.

sheezz if you are already at 6cm dilated they should've admitted you in the hospital. When I was 6cm dilated they broke my water and then 45 minutes later I was already pushing. It can be anytime soon.

There is no way you are going to wait until next sunday. I think you will have him today or tomorrow.
