A Christian's goal in living should be to live in such a way as to receive a "Well done my good and faithful servant" at the Judgment Seat of Christ. So...what does it mean to serve Jesus Christ?

How To Serve Jesus

Say, believe, and practice "not my will, but yours (Jesus') be done." Listen and be aware of the Holy Spirit's direction in your every day life. Be ready to obey when asked.

Love others. Be a promise keeper. Be kind. Be ready to give others an answer about why you believe in Jesus. Be responsible for your own actions.

To fully give every thing that you have; all worldly desires and passions all must be laid down and daily you must chose to live this way. You should try to exhaust yourself every day spiritually in trying to seek God out and really find Him. Be in His presence as much as possible. Your lifestyle should glorify Him. When you sin immediately confess and go on trying not to repeat the same mistake. It is to be Christ-like. A mini Christ. And many of these things seem hard because of living in the flesh but Jesus can do anything and He is in you therefore you can do anything through Him.

I think of it like this: I am a prism designed to reflect God's light. All of my sin nature is like smudges that obscure the light.

As I practice truly seeing God more and more--being in His Presence, being mindful of Him, facing towards Him spiritually--His light washes off the smudges gradually, so that more and more of His light is reflected through me to others. The more I see Him, the more I begin to reflect Him.

His light is all that is good: the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control).

In dancing contests, dancers are graded not only on their technical expertise, but also on their expression of the heart of dancing. If they are just mechanically going through the motions, it does not have the same effect on the audience as when they are throwing their whole selves into the dance.

Our lives are like that too. If we are doing our best to follow a set of rules like the Ten Commandments, technically that is not incorrect; but it cannot compare with the spark of chemistry, the sense of life, in an dancing relationship.

Serving Christ is more than following His rules; it is being in tune with His heart, and "dancing" as He leads. It is a relationship that is alive. We will make some missteps, but with our heart in the dance following His lead, Jesus will say, "Well done."

This is a good question. Very thought provoking.

Christ said If you serve others... Even the least...

You have served Him.

If we love God... And Love our neighbor as ourselves we have been good servants.

But more than that we need to place others before ourselves.

Matthew 23:11

But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

Christ asked the same question:

Matthew 24:45-46 (King James Version)

45Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

46Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

The word 'household in the above scripture is the Greek word therapeia which has the following connotations:

1) service rendered by one to another

2) spec. medical service: curing, healing

3) household service

a) body of attendants, servants, domestics

John 13:34

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

John 13:35

By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

The word love as used by Christ in this new commandment is the greek word agape which incorporates within its meaning:

1) affection, good will, love, benevolence, brotherly love

2) love feasts

We must treat others - not only as we would desire to be treated, we must treat others as though they were Christ Himself. (this is the second greatest commandment - the first is to love God)

I don't think that the answer for this question is difficult. I believe that you abide by the Ten Commandments (nobody can keep them all as we all sin from time to time but at least we try and don't sin willingly) and you are in the clear. I think that you serve Jesus by serving others and doing good for them.

What a great question. Serving Christ means to become like Him and serve others. It means to treat others like they are the image of God. To love those less fortunate, to help the poor and lonely. To walk humbly and love God. Do we do this all the time? Sadly no, we too fight our own self-centerness. But that is the goal of Christians and with God's help we will prevail.

Obeying His Word. It includes what God has spoken to everyone, and what God speaks to us personally (though one will never contradict the other), because faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ (Rom 10:17), and "by faith Abel offered a better sacrifice," so whatever it is God asks us to offer, whether in His Word, or by His Word in our hearts, that is the service that pleases Him. For to one man Christ said "Follow Me!" (Matthew 9:9) to another "He did not let him, but He said to him, 'Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you.'" (Mark 5:18-19) Let each be convinced in His own mind (Romans 14:5-8)

God made all things and each and every thing has a proper place and purpose. Our "duty" is to serve creation appropriately. When we do good acts we create good effects.

Since we are humans, serving mankind in each other is our primary purpose. The things of earth are subject to our dominion, and ar to be used as best as we know how to effect goodness to please each other which pleases God.

Doing the will of God in all our acts is the most pleasing.
