Has YA changed your opinion about racism in America?
Before I came here I really thought racism was dieing out in America. But after being here for a couple months I think I really need to change my opinion. The massive amount of blatant and hidden racism in these sections is amazing, and makes me feel a little sadder about humanity as a whole.
Please people the question isn't about Obama or his preacher. I am asking about racism in America and YA.

No. But I do think that Sen. Obama's speech gave me new and deeper insights into the question.
The fact is that racism is such a difficult and complex topic that everyone, including me, prefers to avoid it. McCain and Hillary certainly do.

I never thought it was dying out. It really was about how much people were willing to either silently be racist or how overt they wanted to make it. People on here are so insensitive, inconsiderate, and rude to one another and for such trivial things. The American value system was built upon the fact that people from all religions, nationalities, and whatever else could live here and peace, and what happens? People just hate each other, and I think Y!A is an accurate portrayal of what people think but don't say. It makes me sad that people are so intolerant of each other when they do not believe the same thing. Tolerance and the freedom to believe and do what you want is the point of America and people are losing sight of that. I still think there's hope for my generation.

Racism is dying out. - But it isn't dead yet.
Racism used to be something proudly displayed by a "no Coloreds allowed" sign.
Now it is hidden. & spoken only in whispers or in the anonimity of the internet.
When I asked a friend why she was voting for Hillary & not Obama. She whispered "You don't want to know!" This is a woman who has loudly told me about how many abortions she has had, yet she didn't feel confortable speaking of her bigotry even in a whisper.
We aren't there yet, but we are going in the right direction!

I'm not surprised. But then, keyboard courage allows people to rant about anything they want...even things they may not say in real life.
At the same time, there are a lot of trolls who post crap just to get a rise out of people. Or sometimes people are playing devil's advocate. You have to put it into perspective.

Not really, I have a feeling the majority of racist comments I see on here are done so to be "shocking". What is the term everyone uses..."shock jock".
And I wouldn't be too surprised if it came to light that many of the accounts that make the racist comments are one person.
(or even a group....)

To tell you the truth, the options were not great this year. But since we can only have one, McCain would be the lesser of the two evils. I believe he will keep our country safe, and I believe if Obama is elected, he will destroy it. McCain/Palin 08

I think this question is dead on. I think that cultural preference is very much alive and well. I really never though about it though before this.
One good thing about obama, is that it has really brought about discussion on the issue. The reall question, is now that the wound is bleeding are we just gonna sew it back up, or are we actually gonna take out the knife that keeps slashing it open.

No! It makes me even sicker yet of hearing about it.
If people want to be treated equally they should start acting sensibly and quit whining!..........Was I whining? Oops sorry.

The internet has set people free to say what they can no longer say in polite society. Racism is not gone. It's just become stealth.
Now you probably see why they are so bitter about "political correctness".
