Is social security number required to make US passport (For New born, travelling abroad 4 weeks after birth)?

We are not US citizens but we are expecting baby here in US.

Mom will have 3 to 4 weeks left after expected date of birth.Hospital told us they will process Birth certificate in a week and passport can be made expetited in a day and SSN is not required to make passport. But some one told me it is required and may take 6 to 8 weeks to arrive. I am confused....

You will only need your infants birth certificate and you will also need both I.D.'s of the mother and father of the child. Here is the requirements:

It took a long time for me to get my passport and for my daughter to receive her's as well, we paid about $200 all together and got our passport in like 3 months, this was last year and apparently they were behind...if you need yours within 7-10 days, try going here:

Darkness has your best answer. You do not have to have an SSN, but it will make their lifes harder over time. Legally, the only federal agency that can require an SSN is Social Security to pay benefits. You can get a passport, pay taxes,etc... without a passport. You will have a headache taking your children as a deduction. The IRS is not legally allowed to require an SSN for your deduction, but it is allowed to hire idiots that do not know the law. I have seen many complaints by people like you that their deductions are disallowed. You will have a difficult time finding an IRS agent that understands the rules. Non Federal agencies like your child's future employer can. Your pre-school can require that you have a birth certificate. Your community sports will require a birth certificate. Most of the people who do this are ready for a long-haul fight. The question is are you?

It depends on where you are taking the child. If they will allow the child into that country without a passport that is up to them. Call your embassy to find out. The US will allow your child out but may require a birth certificate along with your passports. Good Luck!

Hospital will have it ready in a week, then you will need to go down to local record place and pick up birth certificate. It will take about 2 weeks to get the Social security card in the mail

Below is a link of the website explaining what you will need to the new babies passport.

Immediately register the birth because the passport relies on its information. The processing time of the passport is the one critical because it depends on the volume of applicants.
