You feel this way because you're a teenager... bottom line. You love to be with your friends and you can obviously relate to them a lot better than your parents which makes it easier to talk to them. Plus you have to remember that you don't spend all day with your friends... you spend a lot more time with your parents so are less interested in what they have to say... lol.... it sounds mean but it's just the way it is. But you already are being nicer than most teenagers. Most of them don't care that they don't communicate with their parents ... at least you care enough to think about it and ask this question. If you really want to improve the way you talk to your parents then how about YOU start the conversation... then you know that you're going to be talking about something you're interested in and you will probably become enthusiastic.... The more you do this the more habit being enthusiastic with them will become.

You sound like a very sweet kid.... and I would be thrilled if my teenage daughter was concerned with they way she treated me! LoL... keep being you and just keep trying. I'm sure your parents would understand if you're less than enthusiastic.

    Good Luck....

In the end, it's because they're your parents. Most children feel this way and it's not unusual that you have the same feelings.

You mentioned you don't have the best relationship with them. Essentially, that's the answer, because if you felt the same way you do with friends as your parents, it would be a different story. Try to get to know them more. For example, you could tell them about how your day was, and how bad/good it was, and this way you can share your feelings with each other as well as building a stronger relationship.

Make sure you smile when you see them if you're returning from school, and make an effort [no matter how small] to talk to them everyday, at a time you feel comfortable with. It could be at the dinner table or after dinner, before you go to sleep... They'll be happy that at least, you're trying. Maybe you could even think up a good idea for a summer trip with your parents.

Because it's your parents. Majority of kids feel the same way. Nothing wrong, just normal.

because when youre talking with friends, theres a common subject and its usually interesting. when talking with parents, its usually about something boring, like grocery shopping. even though grocery shopping can be fun =]
