I am a nurse, so I will tell you what it means. Whenever you have a cut or wound and it starts to heal, if you look at the edges of a wound it should start to become tight! Basically the wound is starting to form a scab. This is a good thing, the wound is starting to heal.

Well approximated edges means the edges of the wound are clean and relatively in a straight line, meaning it can be sutured if necessary. If the wound does not have well approximated edges, then the edges are jagged, or if the edges of the wound are too far apart to be "approximated" then it cannot be sutured closed and will have to heal via secondary intention.

When a wound is well approximated, it means that both sides of the cut fit together really well, nice and tight together. Hopefully the scar from a well approxiamted cut will be almost none existant.
