Episiotomy healing issues?

I gave birth to my son on March 12th. He was 9lbs 10oz, and I had to get an episiotomy during the birth (and I tore a bit, as well). They stitched me up and all that, and I've been healing rather well; I have no pain at all anymore. However, a couple of days ago, I noticed a very foul smell coming from that general area. At first I thought it was the lochia starting to smell, but I've pretty much stopped bleeding. Then tonight I took a sitz bath and, as I was drying off, I noticed the skin between my thighs and pubic area was raw and peeling. I then realized that the bad smell was also coming from those areas.

So, I have the peeling skin, foul smell, and that area has been itching like mad since last week. I'll be seeing my doctor soon, but I was hoping that someone on here might have some clue as to what this could be so I could try to alleviate the smell and itching.

Any help at all would be great.

Hey girl, congrats on your boy... sorry for your ouchie.. isn't that a shocker! I had a dozzie myself... you got yourself a bit of an infection sounds like.... you can get the spray bottle they gave you at the hospital for cleaning your ouchies, and fill it with hydrogen peroxide. and spray it over area.... this might keep it in check a bit, but i suggest calling DR first thing and getting in tomorrow.. when it comes to your parts you just cant be to careful, and what you think is a foul smell might be normal, its just hard to say..... so don't roll the dice, your little guy will want a brother or sister one day and I'm sure your husband doesn't want the facilities roped off longer than they have to be....

so get in there and fix it up best you can, ice it or heat it to make it feel better, four Motrin if you need them.. and call Dr!

    Again congrats!

Source(s): Dont let every one scare you, take a shower, clean up, use your rinsing bottle, and pat dry.... it can keep until morn if you aren't running a high fever.. no reason to freak, but do call in the morning.

I had an episiotomy with my first son, but i had no problems at all. You most likely have an infection there. I dont know what causes it, but you know the cut is down by your peri-area, and bacteria and stuff grows there. Your supposed to wash yourself with the squeeze bottle after every time you use the bathroom to avoid germs from being carried from your rectum into the cut. Dont use any powders or creams on it till the doc sees it. You dont want to make it worse.

I dont wanna scare you but you need to be seen asap. You should not wait for this. It could be a simple healing issue or could be a serious infection.

    good luck.

that would be an infection. I wouldnt wait , i would go and have them give you meds now. That area is warm/ moist/ and covered most times, good breeding ground for infections- you need it fixed asap.

poop comes out of that hole in the back and can infect the general area that you were stiched up. Do you wipe back to front this can also be another problem!!!!

I would go to the hospital asap if you wont want to run the risk of loosing your anus.

That would be an infection or possibly vaginal strep. My daughter had vagina strep recently and the skin peeling was one of the signs.
