Is this really breaking news?

Top banner at CNN is this Live Developing story:

French president dines with Queen Elizabeth

Please tell me how/why this is significant? I'm in the US, not un-stereotypically unaware of plenipotentiary events.

It's his first state visit to our country and so far he hasn't put a foot wrong. When he met the Pope recently he was using his mobile, texting, during the meeting! He's a complete twit, can't even speak English and yet he has risen to that height in France. Beggars belief, and just goes to show how very well mannered our Queen is, i wouldn't have invited the idiot and his bimbo wife - the papers published nude photos of her here today - obviously a welcoming gesture - there's no wonder the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles were all smiles! Then she turned up in the most miserable grey outfit and hat with flat black pumps - the household cavalry far outshone her never mind the Queen!

Many Britons and French people would not see this as especially significant, either, given that the two countries already have good diplomatic relations. But some would.

Nonetheless, events outside the US are important to some Americans, particularly those with education and interest about events elsewhere in the world, The ignorant don't care.

This is much more interesting than hearing all about the blond bimbos in hollywood. Turn it off if you don't like it.
