  • How do I reorganize a single list of data into a CSV in Excel?

I have a long list of data that follows a very exact pattern. Reading it and interpreting it is simple; but, I would like to use a script through the list and create a spreadsheet so that it's easier to work with the data. Your help and scripting skills will be greatly appreciated.

The raw list looks like list:

    http://mydomain.com/?1

    2.23

    1.06

    0.45

    http://mydomain.com/?2

    0.36

    1.25

    0.21

    2.36

    http://mydomain.com/?3

    0.60

    2.30

    1.30

I would like to read the list (from the last row up...?) and rewrite the data so that it looks like this (comma separated here... in excel, possible to just move to the prior row's last blank cell):

    http://mydomain.com/?1, 2.23, 1.06, 0.45

    http://mydomain.com/?2, 0.36, 1.25, 0.21, 2.36

    http://mydomain.com/?3, 0.60, 2.30, 1.30

I'm happy to provide more details. I will use and award for any method that gives that final result. Thank you!

  • What is the difference between perspective owners and respective owners?

I have noticed a couple of disclosure statements on the internet.

    stating brands / logos are:

    1. " the property of their perspective owners"

    or

    2. " the property of their respective owners"

What is the difference? Is one more correct than the other? I have only heard the second statement being used - ever.

  • What's the best way to carefully open a fedex envelope?

I mangled two Fed Ex envelopes trying to pick apart the plastic airbill pocket.

I have tried scratching, pinching, pulling, rubbing - you name it. The plastic just stretches... mocking me. I finally gouged it open with a paperclip.

But it looks like I hacked at the seam.

Is there a trick to get a little finesse?

  • Is this really breaking news?

Top banner at CNN is this Live Developing story:

French president dines with Queen Elizabeth

Please tell me how/why this is significant? I'm in the US, not un-stereotypically unaware of plenipotentiary events.

    8 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade ago
  • Why is "there's no 'there,' there" suddenly so significant?

I've read this about three times today (brief non-contextual one-liners) -- I cannot understand why it's suddenly so popular.

The original quote by Gertrude Stein refers to Oakland. "The trouble with Oakland is that when you get there, there isn't any there there."

What are folks referring to now? Is it as politically bashing as it sounds?

  • When is enough, enough?

Half venting, and half looking for truthful advice guys.

My gf of 5 years is a miserable person. I can't do enough to make her happy, at my own expense. She has no ambition to do anything but stare at the TV. We breathe the same air, and that's about where are our commonalities stop.

I'm 100% unhappy. I can't think of anything that makes me happy with her, except when she's happy. And... even then, why wouldn't I want to make someone happy w someone who will really appreciate it?

Before leaving for work this morning she points out that if I dated a guy it'd be a hetero relationship. I don't agree with that one bit. I'm stone butch. Technically female but cant even fathom being with a guy. I am not calling myself FTM, I have no plans to transition. What makes me nuts is that I don't push gender, trans or anything that ruffles her feathers. I am just me, who I've always been. A walking wallet is all I feel like. Yet she feels the need to berate me.

    Advice anyone?

  • Excel VBA: detect date and insert row?

I'd like to check each cell value in column A to see if it is the 1st of the month. If it is the 1st of the month, insert a row. Then advance to the next row.

    Data looks like this:

    Date

    12/1/07

    12/2/07

    12/1/07 <-- Insert row

    12/2/07

    12/3/07

    12/1/07 <-- Insert row

    12/2/07

    etc.

    Any ideas?

  • Is it possible to call more than place "home?"?

I have two or three places I call home I really feel like one of them is "home" home. I'm just on the road all the time and actually no place is home. When I'm at any of the places, it's a place to bed down for the night, then the next night, I might or might not be at the other places. I actually own my own house but am rarely there.

Anyway - is it possible to call more than one place home?

  • How do you find an toilet seat for an odd shaped but standard sized bowl?

I cannot find a standard toilet seat to fit a Gerber 1.6 gpf - the bowl is very round with a very thin rim 1" or so -- much thinner than normal toilet bowls.

I installed a new standard seat on this toilet. The problem with the normal round/standard seat is that the two feet that usually sit on the rim and prop the seat over the bowl barely reach the edges of the bowl rim. The seat cannot be sat on -- the foot slips inside the bowl.... I'm dare say I have been pinched between the bowl and the seat when it shifts.

Recommendations, anyone? It's a standard size toilet seat (definitely not elongated. I bought one of those today too thinking I could mickey it... that didn't work.)

    Thanks in advance.

  • Can you fix this Lebanese phrase?

Trying to recover a saying by my aunt from many years ago. I was young, only learned the vocal pronunciation. Can anyone please decipher / translate the old Lebanese adage about looking in a mirror, or a thousand words of a picture...

Sounded like: "Inall a bebo menale sar ati afamo."

I'm even confused on it's meaning... not even sure if I have it right...

Is this it? What's the phrase in English (roughly)?

  • Does anyone else expect to see a surge in YA spam / self promotion in the next weeks?

I really like my peers here in Advertising and marketing. And, like most, I really get annoyed with the "check out my site" spam that is rampant in this category.

I thought this was the worst form of abuse. But.... after attending SES San Jose this week where there was a lot of talk of creating links from social networking sites and centralized communities, I have a new concern.

    Yes, there's a question here.

Just wondering if anyone besides me (from the show or not) expects to see an influx of new enthusiastic blanket posters in the SEO / SEM space that will only be posting the same 10 scrolling pages of a boilerplate answer that cover all aspects of every web topic imaginable) only to have the resource point back to their own site/blog/shop.

Does this really add any value? Obviously there's a little link love as a result. But, the contribution is spammy -- will that be reflected in the link quality that these posters are trying to receive?

  • Excel VBA - Hostname to IP Address?

I have a list of domain names in column A. And, in Column B, I would like to show the IP address of the site in the cell from column A.

I have a VBA function that gets the IP address:

    GetIPFromHostName

So, if I want to retrieve the IP address for yahoo.com, I would type yahoo.com in A1, and in Cell B1, I would enter:

    =GetIPFromHostName(A1)

This should (theoretically) display the IP for yahoo.com. Mind you, don't get hung up on multiple IPs here - that's not the problem.

The function does not work when it's in the Excel cell. It has worked in the past, infrequently and on different occasions. But, other times it does not work at all.

Complicating things further, this piece of a sub function in VBA pops a message box works and it works great, reads right from the Excel sheet:

    MsgBox GetIPFromHostName( Range("A1").Value)

I'm so pwned by this. Help if you can!

BTB, I do not believe timeouts are the problem either -- since the alerts provide instant replies to the IP requests.

  • American Chop Suey or Goolash?

Ok, this is driving me nuts. I have an ongoing stalemate argument going on with my girlfriend...to the point that I can't even accept this meal she cooks anymore because she _always_ calls it by the wrong name.

To me, a meal made of hamburger, elbow macaroni and tomato sauce is called (American) Chop Suey.

    My girlfriend calls this Goolash.

Seriously. Is this a Vermont thing? I'm from Massachusetts and I have never heard of this before. American Chop Suey was a lunch menu item at least twice a month at every school I went to growing up.

To me, Goolash has always been a Hungarian meal made of leftovers that resembles some kind of stew.

I admit, some foods are confusing. I have a hard time telling green onions from scallions. But really, is the nomenclature for chop suey so difficult to agree on?

Vote please and solve this -- Is the proper name for the pasta dish Chop Suey or Goolash? What did you grow up with? Is it a state thing?

  • How do I get rid of the wood smell from a bureau / chest of drawers?

I bought new bedroom furniture eight months ago. The problem is, the drawers still have a woody smell -- just as strong as the day they were moved in.

I've tried dropping Bounce dryer sheets in with the clothes. But, it hasn't worked -- the clothes just smell like wood and bounce.

Any tips for getting rid of this smell? Is there something I can buy that will get the smell out?

  • How do I find all web domains given the IP server host address?

I'm trying to obtain a list of web domains that share the same IP server -- for free.

Is there a service online or piece of freeware that will do this for me?

An example of what I'm trying to do is the reverse IP whois at DomainTools.com:

    Check out: http://whois.domaintools.com/yahoo....

This site provides information on Yahoo.com.

The piece I'm most interested in duplicating for free is found under the "Domain Tools Exclusive" section called "Reverse IP." On Yahoo's profile, it is noted that 35 other sites share this IP. Click on the link brings you to a short list -- you have to subscribe to see the full list.

Is this information actually free for anyone to harvest -- who provides it, and how can I tap into it?

Again: Looking for free tools only.

    Thanks in advance!

  • How do I let someone know of my available times to meet?

    I am drawing a blank.

A partner wants to meet for lunch, and I would like to tell her clearly the times that I'm available.

For example, my schedule is open from noon to 3pm - hard stop at 3pm to pick up another meeting. The latest I could start lunch is 2pm.

I think I'm answering my own question here... coffee is kicking in but I'll ask anyway.

What should I offer as my availability? I'm free AT 12pm-2pm for starting lunch

OR, do I offer 12-3pm for the meeting?

Maybe I should just say we can start at noon to 2pm. Sound quirky. I don't want to be misunderstood.

    wow TGIF

    Thanks guys
