Jehovah's witness and Mormons, why do you?

Go to peoples houses to try to convert them? is it part of your faith that you have to do this? do you ever get any converts this way?

I had a lady who was a jehovahs witness try to convert me while I was at a bus stop, I'm always polite and respectfully decline and explain I have my faith and wont ever change from it!

Also what are your main beliefs and why do you try converting people this way? I'm not trying to bash you or be rude about your faith just wanted to understand a little more about other faiths!

Update:

Thank you for all your answers!

They believe that they have the whole truth and want to "save your soul". But it's annoying especially if they cut your sleep ... just put a sign saying "Trespassers will be shot", even if you live in an apartment :D

Jehovah's Witnesses are following the commanded given by Jesus to "Preach the good news of the kingdom in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all nations, and then the end will come." Matt 24:14

We follow Jesus example given to his disciples to go door to door and house to house or anywhere there are people. (Matt. 10:12-13; Acts 20:20, 21; Acts 5:42) This is the best way to insure that "all the inhabited earth" gets a witness about the "good news of God's Kingdom."

We realize that many will not want to hear what we have to say. But there are many with questions about the bible or the time we are living in. These are the ones we are searching for, not to convert them, but to teach them what the bible says on the matter and let them decide for themselves what is the "truth" of the bible. Even for those who aren't interested, we can have a clear conscience knowing we have made the effort to share with the them the hope of God's Kingdom, which is "good news" indeed.

The close to 7 million Jehovah's Witnesses are actively preaching in 236 lands.

The Lord sent out "fishers of men" in His day, and does the same today. For the Church of Jesus Christ (of Latter-day Saints) each worthy young man is taught that the Lord would have Him serve a full time, 2-year mission. Every worthy young man is encouraged to fullfill this duty to God.

Our basic beliefs can be found (and best summarized) at www.mormon.org

I was a missionary, and frankly "door knocking" as we call it is terribly unsuccessful, yet missionaries continue to do it, for various reasons, some valid and others...well, probably for a lack of creativity or a lack of a willingness to seek the Lord's guidance and try new things. Their calling is to preach repentance to all people, and invite all to come unto Christ. The more efficiently they can do this and "seek out [the Lord's] elect" the better.

I didn't get to read much of the other ans.but touched base with most and VOT was hitting the nail on the head when he/she said that J W's are not at anyones house ,office, workplace, street or elsewhere to convert anyone which is the jist of your question which gets asked over and over by people world wide.PREACHING the Good News Of The Gods Kingdom is the main focal point and then as a result if honest hearted ones who recognize the ring of truth and want to join and study, help is always there for them. Convert is not the word and your honesty is appreciated when you in a polite and respectfull way decline, thus showing a kind heart ,and Vot left you a good link to check into for direct answers .

To answer your question openly, we as Jehovah's Witnesses are following Christ Jesus' example. Remember that he went from door to door and got the same answer, 'I have my own religion.' He also gave his disciples a command: Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20) We take that command very seriously and try to teach as many people as possible that the Kingdom of Jehovah God is the only hope for mankind. See also Matthew 24:14 and how the end of this current wicked system of things will not come until the Kingdom has been preached. Go to the official site to learn more about what we believe and look up any cited scriptures. The Bible should be the final word in what we believe, not opinions.

I'll use the bible to explain why:

1 John 5:3 - "This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome"

What are some of God's commandments?:-

Matthew 5:14, 15 - "You (Christs followers) are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house."

Matthew 28:19 - "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations."

To be a Christian means to be a follower of Jesus. What did Jesus do? He and 70 of his disciples went out knocking on people's doors telling people about God's kingdom. Ironically, many of them back then said that they had their own faith too lol.

There are 100's of thousands of JW "converts" every year worldwide, so I'd say it's pretty effective.

to see a list of our main beliefs, you can visit our OFFICIAL website, not any other ones that claim they are by JW's... please- http://www.watchtower.org/e/jt/index.htm?article=a...

We go door to door, because our Savior & Christ, Jesus, commanded his followers to do so.

Mt. 24:14- 14 And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

........."the end has not come yet, therefore, we are still preaching"........

Matt. 28:19,20- 19 Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.” ............"Commandment from Jesus"...........

It is the main way of getting the good news out, but we do other forms of ministry, such as what you experienced, possibly, at the bus stop... It is called Street Witnessing, we informally preach, we go to businesses, we use the telephone- We use ANY form of ministry to reach the maximum amounts of people, because lives are at stake!

If your neighbors' house was on fire, would you not warn them?!

Source(s): We, as Jehovah's Witnesses have a strong growth & put in over ONE BILLION hours per year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all of our members preach from door-to-door.

I am LDS, and all worthy nineteen year old males are asked to serve a mission, girls can if they wish when they are 21, and older married couples can serve together once their children are grown. The reason we do this is because we find such joy in the knowledge we have found in the gospel of Jesus Christ and we only wish to share our message with the world. It is everyone's right to reject it if they wish, but the missionaries will still continue to go out to preach the gospel. (And yes, we get quite a few converts!) :)

God has commanded us through latter-day prophets to go to all the world and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ in preparation for the return of Christ to the Earth. It isn't always easy to find someone who loves truth and is willing to learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ, but we keep trying. There are some people out there who are ready to investigate other churches and their beliefs, because they feel like something is missing from their lives.

We seldom do door to door proselyting any more. It is the least productive form of proselyting. It is becoming more and more rare, but it still happens. Did you know that the LDS missionaries pay for their own missions? The church only covers travel expenses. While most other young men and women are going to frat parties and getting drunk or high, these fine folks are spending their own money to share a message of spiritual growth and progression.

Our purpose for going door to door is a command given by Jesus Christ at Matt 24;14 and Matt 28:19-20. We are obedient to our savior because his death opened the door to our having the prospect of everlasting life.

We MUST share this good news of God's Kingdom to all who will listen, and even to those who choose not to. I can't speak for the Mormons because I am not one....I am a servant of Jehovah.

It is God's desire that ALL mankind live forever on a paradise earth as was His original plan....that has not changed. We believe that the Bible is ABSOLUTELY the word of God, and by that, we try to the best of our abilities to live according to it's laws. 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

You mentioned that you have your own faith.....then you are a reader of the Bible, right? Please take the time if you will to search out and read the scriptures that I have posted. Thanks.

    Peace

i'm mormon. what we say is there is a time and a place for everything. that is why we ask for an appointment to visit people. we don't just start preaching at costco or while your busy cleaning or whatever.

Mormons try to teach. the missionaries are teachers, just like any other topic like math or science. mormons teach the teachings of christ and also make commitments for people to try and live those teachings.

for example, we teach to be honest throughout our lives because we know it is very beneficial. So we would invite people to be honest.

it is a one sided belief and we are biased. We believe that our teachings are true so i understand if people dont want to listen. but the message is very important. That is why we are (i'll say hard working). i don't think we are pushy because we don't force people to live a different standard. it should be an invitation to do so, nothing more.
