My daughter smells her fingers all the time. Anyone else know a child who does this?
She smells them all the time. My husband also did this when he was a child.
Mother of 4- that is how I am. I am a clean freak so maybe that could be it. Thanks for the advice.

My son did this a lot for awhile. The doctor told me it was because I had pushed so hard for him to keep his hands clean, and he always wanted to make sure they were. He outgrew it, thankfully, 'cause, yes, it was a little wierd.

I am not saying label your child but you may want to have her tested for autism. They have a lot of weird fetishes like licking themselves, biting themselves, smelling certain things, touching things, etc. I am the first to say I don't ever want to label my kid but if there is something that they are doing and I need to have it looked at I would rather know. There are many different types of Autism and no one child acts like another. My oldest son has Autism and he is very high functioning. He has ticks like that. He does things like licks the back of his hand and runs his hands against things just to see how they feel.

maybe this is something that runs in his family. my neice who is 5 smells her fingers all the time. its nothing to really be concerned about but, maybe its a smell she remembers that use to be on her hands. i dont know really but she will eventually grow out of it.

My sister has done this her whole life (she is 35 now). She also smells other stuff too...like her phone or keys, anything she has in her hands. We researched this, and found it is an OCD tendency...but nothing to really be concerned about.

My niece does... And she will sniff people when they come around her. Have no idea why, but she does. Kind of grosses me out, but... what can you do? She isn't hurting anyone.

If it's not harming her in any way don't worry about it, she will grow out of it eventually.
