Any food from an animal is a good source of protein. So meat, poultry, fish & dairy are good sources of protein. Then there are the legumes such as beans and nuts. These are also good sources.

Whey is good because it's easily digested and mixes well with water. Your other option is protein bars.

Any meat and dairy will give you protein. You also get protein from nuts and beans. If you want quick & cheap, canned tuna or salmon, and eggs are great ways to get protein with out having to cook up a steak.

The supplement industry has spent years trying to convince us that any protein we eat automatically turns into muscle. This is simply not true. There are limits to how much protein our bodies can process into muscle in a given period of time. Generally, a big serving of meat and a glass of milk with each meal, even if you have been lifting heavily, will supply your body with just about all the protein you can use. Real foods are always better than powdered supplements, but if you must use supplements, whey protein is better for building muscle. Soy protein shakes are primarily made for people who don’t eat animal products and need some extra protein. Protein Isolates are just a form of whey protein that costs a lot more.

Good foods that have protein : chicken breast, salmon, tuna, milk, and most other meats.

As for supplements, 100% whey is the most common protein supplement used, but I prefer a protein blend ( I use BSN's Syntha-6). The blend contains 6 different kinds of proteins, some that are quickly digested, others that are slower.

I think that a protein blend is better for muscle growth, but unfortunately they usually cost a bit more than regular 100% whey.

Another supplement that you can use to build muscle is Creatine. I take 100% creatine monohydrate capsules. Creatine creates ATP which helps you lift more and recover faster. Creatine also slightly fills your muscles with water, so they look a bit bigger.

If you take creatine, make sure to drink a lot of water, because you will retain much more than normal. And if you don't drink a lot of water, a kidney stone may form because of lack of hydration.

    Cheers bud!

I just researched protein supplements for the past 3 weeks so your in luck ! Protein Isolate is better than protein whey. According to all of the reputable sites I researched, the best protein supplement as of today is called : Isopure Zero Carb.

    As far as foods go:

    fish

    eggwhites

    Pumpkin Seeds

    Beans

    Nuts

    Almonds

    Tuna

Chicken and fish are good, stay away from beef protein. Steak and the like is OK once in a while, but shouldn't be part of a regular diet. Egg whites are good, minus the cholesterol laden yolks. Protein from plant sources like lentils, beans, nuts and seeds are very good, look for low salt products - salt is very plentiful in food products and we end up getting way too much in our diets, making us retain too much water and causing many health problems. Look for vegetable based protein supplements. When you avoid protein from beef and it's cholesterol, it's good for your heart and other internal organs in the long run...
